The daughter of Hollywood actor and comedian Martin Short has died aged 42 and a call to first responders in connection with the death has been released
A 911 call to the Los Angeles Fire Department connected to the tragic death of Martin Short‘s daughter Katherine on Monday 23 February. The 42-year-old died via suicide.
Katherine and her siblings Oliver and Henry were adopted by the comedian and his late wife Nancy Dolman. He and Nancy were married for 30 years before she died on ovarian cancer in 2010.
Martin was supported by his daughter at many events including the afterparty for The Producers in May 2023, where she posed with Goldie Hawn. Her death was announced on Tuesday 24 February after the LAPD and Fire Department responded to a call made from her Hollywood Hills home on Monday shortly after 6pm.

In the call obtained by the Daily Mail, a 911 operator told first responders that Katherine’s gun wound was “self-inflicted” and that someone was with her but unable to get into the bedroom of her home in California.
The fire department did not identify the individual at the property due to privacy concerns but confirmed that they responded to the call at 6:41pm.
On Tuesday, Martin’s representatives confirmed Katherine’s death in a heartbreaking statement. “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” they said. “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
According to People, Katherine was a clinic social worker who worked in a private practice and was involved with the mental health charity Bring Change 2 Mind.
The last time Katherine was seen publicly with her father was for her 40th birthday in 2023. The celebrations were also attended by Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Joni Mitchell and Catherine O’Hara, who also died this year.
Catherine died on 30 January aged 71 following a “brief illness”. A spokesperson said: “Prolific multi-award-winning actress, writer, and comedian Catherine O’Hara died today at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness. O’Hara is survived by her husband Bo Welch and sons Matthew and Luke, along with siblings Michael O’Hara, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Maureen Jolley, Marcus O‘Hara, Tom O’Hara, Patricia Wallice.”
The star’s illness had recently caused her to miss the beginning of production for her hit series The Studio. Catherine was also supposed to attend the Golden Globes earlier that month but missed it.
Her last public appearance was at the Emmys, where she was supported by her husband Bo Welch. Catherine attended the awards as she was nominated for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series her role in The Studio.
Catherine and Martin both worked on Second City Television, a comedy skit show similar to Saturday Night Live. Likewise, they have both had phenomenal comedy acting careers with success like Martin’s show Only Murders In The Building and Catherine’s hit series Schitt’s Creek.
