Popular sex toy company admits hacker stole sensitive customer information

X-rated accessories maker Tenga informed customers earlier this month of a data breach that likely included their names, email addresses and past order details, TechCrunch has reported.

“An unauthorized party gained access to the professional email account of one of our employees,” Tenga Store USA wrote in the memo.

A spokesperson for the Japanese company, which predominantly carries toys designed for men, told TechCrunch that “approximately 600 people” in the US were targeted.

Alongside customers’ personal details and correspondence with the company, the cybercrook reportedly also sent spam emails to customers via the hacked employee’s email address. They asked customers to be vigilant and ignore any suspicious emails coming from that company contact.

Out of an abundance of caution, Tenga urged customers to change their passwords despite ostensibly being excluded from the hack.

Meanwhile, the Tokyo-based brand told TechCrunch they’d also reset the hacked employee’s passwords and enabled multi-factor authentication protocol “across our systems,” they wrote.

Founded in 2005, Tenga claims to have shipped over 162 million sex toys and adult products globally.
