We have a busy day’s racing on Friday with action from Doncaster, Lingfield, Newbury and Wolverhampton, live on Sky Sports Racing…
3.12 Lingfield – Last year’s winner Ferrous faces El Bodon
A cracking clash in the Midnite Awc Sprint Trial Handicap sees last year’s winner Ferrous take on El Bodon.
The Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained El Bodon arrives unbeaten in three all-weather starts including a win over this track and trip. He kept on nicely when winning at Kempton last time and must have a strong chance despite another 3lb rise.
Ferrous was successful in this race last year under same pilot Tom Marquand. That was off a 10lb lower mark however and he will need to be at his best if he is to follow up. An excellent fourth behind subsequent winner Diligent Harry in the Kachy Stakes showed he is in rude health though.
The best of the rest may be Kevin Philippart de Foy’s Lakers. He finished an excellent third from a wide draw in a strong race at Southwell and must be respected if in similar mood.
3.00 Newbury – Miami Magic headlines strong novices’ chase
Miami Magic tops a quality line-up for the OLBG ‘Chasing Excellence’ Novices’ Chase at Newbury.
Stuart Edmunds’ stable star impressed when getting off the mark at the third time of asking at Cheltenham on his penultimate run. He struggled to land a blow in the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown but given he did not jump with the same fluency, he should appreciate the drop down in class and is taken to concede the penalty under Charlie Hammond.
Wyenot has been a consistent performer for the Henry Daly team and has undergone a wind operation having disappointed at Bangor. Providing that is a success, she could bounce back and rates next best.
That’s Nice, Elysian Knight and Thank You Ma’am complete the quintet.
2.12 Lingfield – In-form Henrythenate and Mr Juggles clash
An ultra-competitive renewal of the Betmgm Awc 3 Year Old Trial Handicap where in-form pair Henrythenate and Mr Juggles headline.
Henrythenate made it two wins from two for new trainer Stuart Williams when comfortably winning over five furlongs at Wolverhampton 15 days ago and he looks the type to go in again as he steps up in trip to six furlongs.
Mick Appleby’s Mr Juggles was well-backed when making a winning handicap debut at Southwell earlier this month and he warrants plenty of respect under a 7lb penalty.
Others with each-way chances are Star Of Albion and Saffron Dandy, while Horace Wallace makes appeal on his first handicap start.
Best of the rest
3.45 Lingfield – AW Marathon Trial – Last year’s winner Roaring Legend involved. Enemy another to note.
4.20 Lingfield – AW Middle Distance Trial – Duke’s Command fancied for Marquand. Lord Melbourne too.
4.53 Lingfield – AW Mile Trial – Superposition among 10 runners.
2.42 Lingfield – AW Fillies & Mares Trial – Bridget’s View tops a field of 11.
3.35 Newbury – Taunton winner Talk To The Man catches the eye for Paul Nicholls.
4.08 Newbury – Fair handicap chase where Carbon Man and Daytime Dreaming feature.
2.30 Newbury – Lady Cecilia is a potential improver for Lucy Wadham.
6.15 Wolverhampton – Charlie Appleby and Conor Planas team up with well-bred Starglow. He is related to Romantic Style.
5.45 Wolverhampton – Benacre and Maximising have claims.
12.25 Chantilly – Vatican will be popular.
1.00 Chantilly – Keep an eye on Turbulante.
