How to watch Cognizant Classic on Friday
On Day 1 at the 2026 Cognizant Classic, Austin Smotherman cruised to a nine-under 62 at PGA National’s Champion Course. The stellar round was good enough to give the 31-year-old pro a one-shot lead heading into the second round.
Smotherman won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025 but has never captured a PGA Tour victory. He’s followed closely on the leaderboard by two-time Tour winner Nico Echavarria, who shot a 63 on Thursday to get within one shot of the lead.
Shane Lowry shot a one-under 70 and will start Round 2 eight shot back. Max Homa (two over) and Brooks Koepka (three over) both struggled on Day 1 and will be fighting to make the cut on Friday.
