Ahead of the return of Line of Duty for the crime drama’s seventh season, Martin Compston’s wife is making sure he slims down to fit into his signature waistcoats

Martin Compston‘s wife is making sure he can fit into his signature waist-coats ahead of the return of Line of Duty, by enforcing a strict no-sugar rule for the Scot’s diet. The 41-year-old will reprise his role as DI Steve Arnott in the seventh season of the hit crime drama, which last aired in 2021.

He will be joined by co-stars Vicky McClure, who plays undercover specialist Kate Fleming, and Northern Irish actor Adrian Dunbar, who stars as Superintendent Ted Hastings. But to make sure he is in tip-top shape, Martin’s wife, American actress Tianna Chanel Flynn, is making sure he eats organic whole foods with no refined sugar.

Speaking to the Times, Compston revealed: “I’m filming series seven of Line of Duty in the spring, and before I start a new project I do this thing called the Whole30 organic diet, orchestrated by my wife, who, unlike me, is a phenomenal cook, where you totally cut out sugar. Yesterday she made chicken wings, asparagus, cabbage and a miso sauce for lunch, which all helps me fit nicely into my Steve Arnott waistcoat.”

The actor also explained how he is “genuinely very good pals” with his co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, adding that the “off-screen camaraderie” helps him during filming. He added he never tires of fans asking him about Line of Duty, explaining: “When I did Sweet Sixteen, for a while it felt like an anchor around my neck because of the pressure of it, whereas Line of Duty came at a time in my career where I’m just proud of it, and if it’s the thing I’m most famous for and the best thing I’ve ever done, then so be it.”

He was just a teen when he made his debut in Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen, going on to take roles in The Wee Man, Monarch of the Glen, and The Nest. More recently he starred in Prime Video thriller Fear, a three-part saga in which he played architect Martyn Berwick whose life is ripped apart by false allegations of child abuse by his sinister neighbour.

Some of his other recent roles have included The Rig, Mayflies and Our House. He’s also dipped his toe into presenting with his own BBC travel show, Martin Compston’s Norwegian Fling, where he delved into contemporary Norway.

The woman behind Martin’s new diet regime is his wife Tianna Chanel Flynn, with who he shares a son. The family live together in Las Vegas, where they keep a low profile.

Opening up about their choice of Las Vegas on the Table Manners podcast in 2022, he revealed: “There’s this weird thing. People are very kind and they’re just curious, but there’s been this weird thing of people taking pictures of my kid and then sending it to me online and it’s bizarre. I don’t understand why you would. It’s weird, like, they’ll DM you.

“And that’s why I’ve had to stop looking at DMs altogether because it’ll be like: ‘I saw you and your kid at the park, didn’t want to bother you but here’s a picture.’ And you’re like… It’s weird. Genuinely, I’ve been out with my wee one and somebody will come up and go: ‘Can I get a picture?’ and I’ll go, ‘I’m really sorry, but I’m with my son,’ and they’ll go: ‘Oh, thingy will hold him.’ And I’m like: ‘What?!’ People genuinely think they’re just being nice. That’s why Vegas is really good. We can just sort of disappear over there.”

Martin first met Tianna during happy hour at a bar. He previously explained: “We met in a bar and she was the hostess. It was happy hour on a Monday so the place was deserted. Obviously my wife’s quite kind of strikingly beautiful you know she’s got this incredible hair.

“I was a right few [drinks] in, it was happy hour. So she was kind of forced to put up with me and my pal for several hours. It’s just amazing that we walked into that bar on that day and I think about it and go, ‘If I didn’t, then…’ You know, she’s my wife and we have a kid together now.”
