Explosive start helps Trieste defeat Posillipo

The highlight of the Italian League 17th round was the match between 4th-placed Posillipo and 5th-placed Trieste.

But the derby lacked excitement. Trieste, the home team, recorded a 6-goal win. Trieste got off to a flying start, taking a 4:0 lead. Early in the third quarter, Trieste stretched the margin to six (10:4). Posillipo halved its deficit, scoring three straight goals (7:10). At the finish of the third period, Trieste regained control and replied in the same way, with a 3:0 run. Five minutes before the end, Treste was 13:7 up and maintained the difference until the end. Podgornik, Cubranic, Manzi, and Draskovic scored three goals each in Trieste’s 15:9 victory. Radovic scored four for the Naples-based team.

Trieste is now five points behind Posillipo.

Pro Recco showed no mercy to Canottieri Naples. Eleven players of the title holder got on the scoreboard in a 23:3 win. Granados, Cannella, Mladossich, and Condemi netted three goals.

Brescia also reached a double-digit margin, beating Quinto 17:7, with four goals from Del Basso.

Savona collected three points in an away match against Roma Vis Nova. At halftime, the teams were tied at 5:5. Still, Savona dictated the pace in the second half and recorded a 12:9 win, led by Oliver Leinweber, who found the net five times.

Ortigia upset De Akker, taking two points after a penalty shootout, 17:16 (12:12). Florentia recorded its second victory in the season, narrowly beating Olympic Roma 10:9 in an away game.

Salerno moved to 11th place after beating Telimar 19:13.
