Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder tragically died early Sunday morning after a single-car accident.
He was 23 years old.
According to a press release from the Colorado State Patrol, Ponder lost control of the Tesla Model 3 he was driving and struck a guardrail before the vehicle hit an electrical line pole and rolled down an embankment.
The car then caught on fire.
Ponder had been a member of the Buffaloes football team for the past two seasons as a walk-on quarterback.

In a social media post, head coach Deion Sanders called Ponder “one of my favorites!”
“He was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader. Let’s pray for all that knew him & had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord you’re receiving a good 1. Comfort us Lord Comfort us,” Sanders wrote in a post on X.
