According to some reports by the Colorado State Patrol, Dominiq Ponder was involved in a single-vehicle accident in Boulder. The heartbreaking incident took place during the early hours of March 1, 2026. According to the authorities investigating the case, he was driving a 2023 Tesla when he allegedly lost control while attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve around 3:00 a.m. Additionally, based on the circumstantial evidence, the investigators revealed that the vehicle had crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a guardrail and an electrical pole. Subsequently, the car rolled down an embankment and caught fire.

Despite the arrival of emergency responders, Dominiq was soon pronounced dead at the scene. Even the preliminary findings suggest that Dominiq’s vehicle speed may have contributed to the crash. But the investigation continues. However, the officials have not revealed whether any other vehicles were involved. Moreover, until now, no extra passengers had been confirmed to be inside the car at the time of the accident. The news about Dominiq Ponder’s death was initially acknowledged by Buffalo’s head coach, Deion Sanders. He shared a heartfelt message on social media, describing Dominiq as “one of my favorites” and calling him a “Born Leader.” Moreover, in his tribute, he prayed for the comfort of his family and loved ones affected by his death. In his words:

“God, please comfort the Ponder family, friends, & Loved ones. Dom was one of my favorites! He was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader. Let’s pray for all who knew him & had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord, you’re receiving a good 1.”

At the same time, the University of Colorado Athletic Department also issued a statement mourning his loss and extending condolences to his family. Meanwhile, some of the team officials described him as a respected teammate who brought positive energy and leadership to the locker room. Other local media outlets like On3 and other Colorado-based reporters later confirmed that the fatal crash was the cause of his death, which went viral instantly in the college football world.

Soon, he grew up into a 6-foot-5 quarterback with a dominating presence on the field. Initially, Dominiq spent time at Bethune-Cookman University and also had a stint at Georgia Tech. But he was later transferred to Colorado in 2024, adding depth to their quarterback combination under Coach Sanders.

Recently, during the 2025-26 season, Dominiq got limited chances to play as a backup quarterback. He made a brief appearance in a game on November 2, 2025, completing one pass attempt and running for two yards. But eventually, he got limited on-field opportunities.
