‘Scary Movie 6’ Release Date Countdown Starts, ‘Cindy Campbell’ Returns With Old Faces In The Sequel

Scary Movie 6 is finally coming to the theatres after a long wait of 13 years. The franchise, which was launched in 2000, has turned out to be successful despite the fact that the films received mixed reactions from critics. The funny moments, along with references to the popular slasher movies, have made it popular. Actress, Anna Faris, additionally gained recognition for her performance as ‘Cindy Campbell’ in four films of the franchise, released between 2000 and 2006.

Scary Movie 6 release date was confirmed in January 2025

The release date of Scary Movie 6 was first revealed in January 2025. A report by Deadline stated at the time that the parody movie would arrive at the big screen on June 12, 2026. Although it took a long time for the film to enter production, the reason for the same was never officially revealed. However, the reason is reportedly believed to be the problems of Dimension Films, which was involved in the distribution of the first five entries. Notably, the famous production company was operated by Harvey and Bob Weinstein.

Dimension Films entered trouble with some serious allegations emerging against Harvey Weinstein in 2017. Before the accusations created headlines, the company lost the rights to another slasher franchise, Halloween. Moreover, their films were struggling to create a big impact in terms of box office collections. The company was eventually shut down in 2018, along with The Weinstein Company.

Scary Movie 6 storyline will remain a mystery until it arrives in theatres

Compared to other sequels, the makers of Scary Movie 6 have decided to maintain the suspense until the film is released on the big screen. Marlon Wayans, who plays an important role in the movie, appeared for an interview with ComicBook.com in September 2025, opening up on what the viewers can expect from the film. Marlon addressed a few movies that would be parodied in the upcoming follow-up, which include I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heretic, Longlegs, Get Out, and Sinners.

Dave Sheridan, who appeared as ‘Doofy Gilmore’ in the first movie, said in January 2025 that ‘Ghostface’ will be a part of Scary Movie 6. He even claimed that the new installments of the Scream franchise will be parodied in the new movie. He addressed the same by saying:

“From what I know of the original script, it did fall in line with what Scary Movie did with really following the story of the [Scream franchise], so this would be like Scream 5 and 6.”

Majority of the characters from the first film are returning in Scary Movie 6

As mentioned, Anna Faris and Regina Hall are included among the cast members of Scary Movie 6. Dave Sheridan will also reprise his role as ‘Doofy Gilmore.’ Apart from him, there are many others returning from the first film. This includes Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Lochlyn Munro, and Jon Abrahams. Cheri Oteri will also be a part of the film, along with Chris Elliott. The new cast members include Anthony Anderson, Kim Wayans, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Felissa Rose, Sydney Park, and many others. Michael Tiddes, known for his work on films like A Haunted House, is directing Scary Movie 6.
