A man detained in the Nancy Guthrie case has spoken out after he and his mother were held for hours as detectives hunt for the missing 84-year-old mum of TV host Savannah Guthrie

A man who was detained in the hunt for missing Nancy Guthries has spoken out. Luke Daley, 37, from Arizona, was detained after a SWAT raid at his home.

Now, after being released, he has broken his silence on the event as officers and the FBI continue their search for the mother of Today TV host Savannah Guthrie. Daley and his mother, 77, were detained and held for hours after detectives descended on their Tuscon home with a search warrant.

The duo are said to live around two miles from Nancy’s home, where she was last seen on January 31. They were both released without charge after being held for hours.

Daley has spoken to True Crime Arizona host Briana Whitney about the situation. He said he believes he was targeted after social media users said he looked like the masked man who was seen on the doorbell footage from Nancy’s house.

He reiterated to the host: “It’s not me. I don’t see the resemblance of it looking like me. Absolutely not. I have nothing to do with this case.”

He went on: “Someone says something and then they just go off of it based on no evidence, no truth.” And he said he, “like everyone else”, is hoping Nancy comes home safely.

When he was detained, his attorney confirmed the news, but insisted the mum and son duo had nothing to do with the case. Chris Scileppi said: “Daley and his mother were both detained by law enforcement while the search warrants were being executed.

“Neither Daley nor his mother were arrested in connection to this case or any other. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping. Like the entire Tucson community, both Daley and his mother are hopeful that Nancy will be returned to her family unharmed.”

Investigators hunting for the missing elderly woman say they continue to pursue active leads following the implementation of a significant new approach. Despite weeks of intensive investigation, no arrests have been made and no suspect has been publicly named.

And sources say the investigators on the case have now implemented a crucial tactic in a bid to generate fresh leads. “This is nowhere near a cold case,” CNN Chief Law Enforcement Analyst John Miller said.

“They still have leads that are viable that they need to get to, including new leads that came in because of the strategy of holding back the big reward until the time it was needed to re-energise the lead bucket,” he said as he referenced the $1 million reward announced by the Guthrie family.

The reward is in addition to a separate offer of $100,000 from the FBI, which is said to have sparked a wave of new leads.
