Princess Kate’s tonal brown suit and classic blue shirt totals £1,417, but we’ve managed to replicate it for £75 with one of these three looks

When the Princess of Wales stepped out a few weeks ago wearing what we on the Mirror fashion desk would call one of her best daytime looks of recent years, we immediately thought of a challenge for our Fashion Lead: to recreate her look but for a much smaller budget.

Totalling up Kate’s outfit, we estimate it to cost around £1,417 – and that’s not even including shoes and accessories. With a £1,130 Petar Petrov blazer, £192 cigarette trousers likely from one of her go-to mid-range brands like Max Mara and a £95 shirt rumoured to be from rising British brand With Nothing Underneath, it’s by no means one of the Princess’ more affordable outfits. But the good news is, it’s one that you can replicate pretty convincingly.

Here, Zoe styles three Kate-inspired looks – one under £500, one under £200 and one under £100 – to save you money this spring. So, can you guess which of the three is the most expensive?

LOOK 1: Under £500

By far the most convincing Kate ‘dupe’ suit comes from Nobody’s Child. With a slightly oversized blazer and a pair of cigarette-style trousers that closely resemble the princess’, this outfit proves you don’t need to splash out over a thousand pounds to get a Royal-off-duty effect. We’ve paired the co-ord with Kate’s choice of blue shirt. Though we can’t say for certain that it’s from there, it’s been widely reported that Kate is choosing to wear some basic shirts from With Nothing Underneath. And with this blue buy coming in under £100, it’s a reasonably priced wardrobe addition that won’t lose shape after a few washes.

If you have a budget of around £120, Next is a great place to go scouting for Kate-like pieces. Though these trousers have a subtle check pattern, they give a similar look without feeling quite as restrictive as cigarette pants. The blue shirt from Next was also one of Zoe’s favourite pieces she tried on. With a soft fabric, pocket detailing and gorgeous blue shade, she says she was reluctant to return it after putting it on. Finish with a basic blazer from Zara, and nobody would know your look doesn’t cost at least three times more.

Only got £75 to spend on your look? We’ve got you covered. Zoe picked a range of bargain pieces from the likes of Asos, Next and Boohoo, and the outcome, we think, is still quite similar to Kate’s. The trousers were a bargain of a find in the Asos spring sale, and as was the blue shirt from Boohoo. Plus, with extra cinched button detailing on the shirt, we like how it gave the look a slightly more fitted feel. The highest value piece was the Next blazer, which still came in at under £50 and felt thick and luxurious, Zoe says.
