Primorac narrowly defeated Jug, 14:13, in the postponed match of the Euro Cup Eighth-finals 1st leg. The two teams met  in Podgorica.

However, a very important piece of information about this game is that it took place at all, given what happened between the draw for the Round of 16 and the encounter in Podgorica.

As we reported earlier, Primorac insisted that the game be played in Kotor. Following the Montenegrin club’s appeal, European Aquatics rescheduled the match, but didn’t change the venue. As a result, Primorac filed a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, requesting an urgent decision.

On Tuesday evening, before CAS announced its decision, European Aquatics informed the clubs that the game is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Podgorica.

Today, the CAS’s response arrived. As Primorac announced: “CAS decided that it ‘did not have jurisdiction’. In translation, it did not want to examine whether the decision to move the match from Kotor was legal and based on the rules”. Thus, the European Aquatics TWPC’s decision to move the games to Podgorica and Zagreb remained in force. In the end, Primorac hosted Jug in Podgorica to avoid being punished with a suspension from EA competitions and financial sanctions. But, the Kotor-based club expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision.

Obviously, this is an issue that sports organizations can’t solve.

As for today’s events in the water, the game was interesting, with several turns. Jug started excellently, taking a 4:0 lead in the first six minutes. Late into the second quarter, Primorac managed to level the score at 5:5. Pavlic gave Jug a 6:5 lead in the next possession, but Olympic champion Nemanja Vico closed the first half with an equalizer for 6:6 with 13 seconds remaining. Primorac kept its momentum in the third period and established a 10:8 lead. However, Jug scored three goals in a row and entered the final quarter with a slim 11:10 advantage.

But, Primorac made a new turn. Less than five minutes before the end, the Kotor-based team went ahead again – 13:12. Jug leveled three minutes later, but Stefan Vidovic had the last word, scoring the last goal in the match with 55 seconds left on the clock.
