Subedaar, featuring Anil Kapoor in the lead, is out now on Amazon Prime Video. The action-drama film was released on March 5, 2026. The movie also features a talented lineup of actors playing the supporting roles, including Saurabh Shukla, Mona Singh, Aditya Rawal, Radhika Madan, and Faisal Malik. It is directed by Suresh Triveni, who is working with Amazon Prime Video for the for the third time after Jalsa and Daldal.
The main storyline of Subedaar is set within the boundaries of Madhya Pradesh. ‘Arjun Maurya’ is a retired Army officer who is hired to work as a security officer for ‘Prince,’ who does not care anything about the law. The premise takes an intense turn when both sides come into conflict with each other due to certain situations. Despite having a plot without a lot of scope to offer something new, the film works because of the intensity featured on screen and Anil Kapoor displaying his energy at the age of 69 in certain sequences. Keep reading to know more.
Authenticity is one of the main highlights of Subedaar

As mentioned, the lead character of Subedaar is from the army and he is confronting someone who does not follow the rules. This premise needs a setting that looks different and uncommon. The makers deserve credit for keeping everything authentic and real, including the language. The actors can be spotted getting used to the accent easily without trying so hard.

Apart from the language, authenticity is maintained in terms of creating a certain atmosphere that exists in the city where ‘Arjun Maurya’ has arrived. This is established shortly after the beginning as we get to see random people carrying guns with them. There is a bank where stains can be spotted on the walls and the employees ask the customers to return the next day for any work. The lead character also faces the irresponsible behaviour of a bank employee in one of the sequences.
Subedaar does not use commercial elements for a few important sequences

There is a common rule for all the action movies. Viewers should get the opportunity to clap or whistle, specifically when the film reaches the climax. However, Suresh Triveni opts to take a different route in Subedaar. Although the perfect setup is created in the last 15-16 minutes for an intense ending, what happens next will undoubtedly bring a lot of questions in the mind of the viewers. A few might be disappointed with the fact that ‘Arjun Maurya’s’ heroism is not established in the ending where it was needed the most.

But the conclusion to this entire sequence will satisfy all those who have already predicted the end. Furthermore, a cameo of a veteran actor in this moment saves the film from turning out to be an underwhelming experience. On the other hand, the conflict established in the main premise had a lot of potential to bring more confrontations between the good and bad on screen. However, the director keeps those face-offs restricted to places where they are necessary.
Anil Kapoor leaves an impression with his intense performance on screen

Anil Kapoor’s performance in Subedaar proves once again that age is just a number. Despite being 69 years old, he delivers his best when it comes to beating the bad guys on screen. There are a few moments where Anil Kapoor also takes away from the spotlight from the other actors, including a sequence where he drags someone by the neck and forces him to clean his car. Apart from these, Anil Kapoor appears silent or subdued in a few scenes. But what works in those scenes is the actor’s face expressions, hinting that he is trying to control himself from the inside in any situation, including when he is being insulted by someone.
A few among the supporting actors get a chance to shine on screen
While Anil Kapoor is there on every scene, the supporting actors also try to bring out their best on screen. Radhika Madan, who plays Anil Kapoor’s daughter, impresses a lot, specifically in the scenes where she has to get emotional. Mona Singh is equally good in her role as ‘Babli Didi.’ While the character had a chance to be remembered as something unique in terms of a negative role, the limited screen presence does not let Mona show her true potential.

Aditya Rawal is excellent as ‘Prince.’ The character has an aggressive nature that works a lot in moving the story forward and even creates some exciting moments, specifically when he comes face to face with Anil Kapoor’s character, ‘Arjun Maurya.’ Faisal Malik also leaves a mark with his performance as ‘Softy Bhaiya.’
