Amanda Holden welcomed a new family addition in January, but says one of her pets began to show her ‘displeasure’ at the move, leading her to call in professionals

Amanda Holden says she feels “guilty” as she seeks professional help for a family issue. The 55-year-old recently rescued a cat called Bolt from Corfu, where she was filming her home renovation show with Alan Carr.

She says she decided to name the cat Bolt because he was “super quick” and can climb over the “six foot fence” at her luxurious home in Surrey. Bolt joins Amanda’s other pet cat Muffy in the home she shares with husband Chris Hughes and daughters Lexie and Hollie.

The family also have dogs Minnie and Rudy. Amanda has previously revealed that Muffy “made her displeasure heard” about a new animal joining the family.

And it appeared the issue escalated in recent weeks as she revealed she has brought in two animal behaviourists to try and help Muffy. However nothing seemed to have worked, leading to the cat weeing on Chris.

Speaking on Heart Breakfast after the weather forecast predicted highs of 18C this week, Amanda said: “My garden is such a sun trap and I love it because all the animals go out and find their little spots in the sun apart from moody Muffy who is not over the fact we rescued a cat from Corfu. She hates it.

“She’s gone from being a beautiful serene princess, beautifully housetrained, never been to the vet, travels with us to the Cotswolds, she’s just gorgeous, to now weeing on our bed. She weed on Chris the other day, she jumped on the bed and she weed all over him, full bladder.

“She’s got no kidney infection, nothing. We know it’s spite, we’ve got a proper cat behaviourist coming out. We’ve had two brilliant ones coming out and unfortunately that didn’t work out but we’ve got another one next week.”

Amanda says she hopes the cats will be able to “pass each other” without hissing. She continued: “It’s Muffy, she’s 16 years old, if she sees Bolt, she tears down the stairs like an Olympian and tries to get Bolt.”

Co-host Jamie said Amanda’s cat sounds like a “nasty piece of work”. To which the Britain’s Got Talent judge replied: “She’s not. She’s our absolute queen of the house and I feel so guilty.

“Now we can’t have her on the bed because we don’t trust her. She’s doing it out of spite, we Googled it because we ruled everything else out.”

Earlier this year Amanda shared an Instagram post of Bolt adjusting to his new surroundings. She wrote: “Our lovely rescue from Corfu is settling down and the dogs are quite chilled!

“Princess Muffy has deigned to come downstairs a few times and sniff about but is still making her displeasure heard! We’ve named him Bolt because he’s super quick! And can climb over the six foot gate we put in the kitchen door to keep him safe!

“There are lots of strays in the world, including our country- they are everywhere but there are so many amazing people doing their best to help. If you feel like donating to Corfu…please click on my stories where you will find the link to a registered UK Charity who divvy up funds raised between a lot of shelters that need help in Corfu.”

Amanda has spoken fondly of the Greek island, leading to Alan and Amanda’s Greek Job being filmed on Corfu. The series was the fourth renovation programme she has filmed with the comedian. Each has seen them buying a dilapidated property and fixing it up ready for sale.
