Britney Spears is said to be “very sorry” following her DUI arrest on Wednesday and is worried about letting her millions of fans down as the incident plays out

Britney Spears is said to be “very sorry” for her actions following her arrest. The pop star, 44, was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 PM on Wednesday night for driving under the influence, TMZ claims.

It is understood she was booked early on Thursday morning, around 3am, and she is due to appear in court over the matter on May 4, but insiders have now claimed that the singer has expressed remorse over her actions.

A source said: “She was incredibly emotional, it’s been a very hard couple of months. She felt ashamed and embarrassed and is very sorry.” The source also recalled that Britney was “crying and very tearful” throughout the whole ordeal.”

It’s also thought that the (You Drive Me) Crazy singer, who regained control of her multimillion-dollar fortune and various other aspects of her life when conservatorship governed by her family was reversed in November 2021, is fearful of being “judged” publicly again, and doesn’t want to disappoint her fans around the world.

Speaking to PageSix, the source added: “She doesn’t want to let anyone down, including her fans, the last thing she wants is to be judged publicly all over again.”

Shortly after the news broke, her manager told the Mirror: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

They added: “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

Britney is yet to publicly comment on the reports of her arrest herself and her Instagram account appears to no longer be active. Earlier today, it was reported that the Toxic singer, whose highs and lows have been very publicly documented, was granted a permanent restraining order against a Louisiana man after her security team claimed he showed up at her home after making “disturbing social media posts”.

It’s said that Donald was arrested for trespassing on her property in 2025. He has been ordered to stay 100 yards away from the singer by a court after he was found by Britney’s security, who contacted the sheriff’s department, who found the man shaking at the scene and smoking cigarettes.

The troubled singer, who was released from her conservatorship in November 2021, regularly posts videos online which concern her fanbase.

Just last week, the star posted a racy video of herself dancing before suffering a wardrobe malfunction as the lacy lingerie she was wearing in the clip came away and failed to cover her up.

The clip featured the pop icon dancing along to Clean Bandit’s 2016 song Rockabye in a purple lace bodysuit before the lingerie’s plunging neckline struggled to contain her bust.

The video is one of many of Britney’s racy dancing clips which featured on her now-deleted Instagram account.

The Mirror has contacted Britney’s representatives for comment.
