Prime Video has released the first trailer for its upcoming Tamil original series Local Times, a comedy drama set within the world of grassroots journalism. Directed by Naveen George Thomas in his debut as a filmmaker and produced by Jithin Thorai under the Fanboy Production banner, the seven-episode show is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform on March 13.
A small newsroom with big ambitions
The nearly two-minute trailer offers a lively glimpse into the daily hustle inside Namma Seidhi, a modest local weekly newspaper that is trying to stay relevant in a time when digital media dominates the news cycle. At the centre of the story is a group of young journalists who continue to believe in the purpose of reporting stories that matter to the public, even when their efforts rarely receive recognition.

The trailer moves through moments of chaotic newsroom banter, street level reporting assignments, and personal clashes among the team members. Despite the constant setbacks, the group refuses to abandon the publication that means so much to them. However, the glimpse also hints that their struggles may not remain confined to financial troubles and workplace frustrations. Certain antagonistic forces appear determined to shut down their work, adding a layer of tension to the otherwise lighthearted tone.
The series features Rishikanth, Abdool Lee, Maurish Dass, Adwitha Arumugam, Pandiarajan, Chinni Jayanth, Harini, Sarvesh Sridhar, and Nandhitha Sreekumar in other roles.
Friendship, chaos and the fight to keep a legacy alive
At the heart of Local Times lies the story of four friends who refuse to let a once respected publication fade into obscurity.
The official plotline reads, “Surviving on limited funds but driven by unlimited hope, four friends—Veera, Azhagu, Valli, and Muthu—are determined to keep alive Namma Seidhi, a once-respected regional newspaper owned by Veera’s grandfather. The trailer offers a glimpse into the chaotic lives of this motley crew, their hilarious misadventures, emotional clashes, unexpected wins, a powerful nemesis who is hellbent on taking them down, and their admirable bond of friendship that refuses to collapse, even when everything else does.”
The show has been written by Praveen Muthurangan and created by Abbhinav Kastura along with Praveen Muthurangan, Satwik Gade, Thomas Manuel and Visvaksen P. The creators say the series is designed as a relaxed and enjoyable watch for Tamil audiences.
“Local times is a simple, unwind watch. It’s a light-footed comedy set in familiar spaces: a small office, big dreams, bruised egos, and friendships that survive chaos. The show sits comfortably between drama and comedy. The conflicts and ambitions are real, but the storytelling moves with warmth and humour. Simple but with heart—that’s what we’re aiming for, and we hope audiences feel it too,” they said in a statement.
For director Naveen George Thomas, the emotional centre of the story lies in the imperfect yet deeply human characters who anchor the narrative.
“The story of Local Times could be the story of anyone holding onto their dreams and standing by those who stood by them, no matter what the world says. Our protagonists are not heroes in the conventional sense; they’re flawed, stubborn, and sometimes foolish, but they care deeply. The comical moments come from their desperation, while the emotional warmth comes from the fact that they never abandon each other.”
Blending humour, heartfelt moments and a look at the struggles of small-scale journalism, Local Times aims to present an engaging story about friendship, resilience and the determination to keep a legacy alive. When the series premieres on March 13, audiences will step into a bustling newsroom where dreams are fragile but the spirit to fight for them remains strong.
