Chappell Roan may have a signature look—those long, flowing red curls, obviously—but that doesn’t mean she’s sticking to that hairstyle forever and ever. Quite the opposite, actually, especially during her visit to Paris Fashion Week! The Grammy-winning musician has only been in Paris for a few days and she’s changed up her hairstyle in the most incredible ways, aided by hairstylist Lacy Redway. At Acne, she channeled the internet-driven “weird art school girl” vibe with a faux bob. At Rick Owens, an architectural ponytail. And at Mugler, Roan took us back in time to a few distinct eras, all beautifully remixed into one sculptural updo.
For the show, Redway created what she called a “diva roll” for the pop star, pulling her red hair up into a series of tight rolls reminiscent of 1940s Victory rolls. The front portions were separated in hair and rolled in a horizontal direction toward the center parting. The back portion was also rolled, but vertically, and pinned to the back of the star’s head. It’s giving 1940s, but it’s also got a bit of Regency romanticism to it, especially those wavy bangs brushing Roan’s forehead. Roan’s high-necked dress was also equal parts retro and timeless, with bold ’40s-style shoulders and a fishtail midi skirt.

Roan’s makeup was decidedly more modern, however, with makeup artist Andrew Dahling crafting a classic Chappell Roan glam for the show: sculpted cheeks with lots of blush; thick strokes of black liner on her top and bottom lashes; and slim, arched brows.
Paris Fashion Week has been a buffet of beauty inspiration, with Roan and her fellow stars giving us tons of ideas for future looks. Willow Smith’s gold metallic lip was a standout, as was Anya Taylor-Joy’s swingy, princessy ponytail, not to mention Oprah’s bubble pony from the Chloé show. Can it be Paris Fashoin Week forever?
