Hear’Say star stunned fans when Suzanne Shaw announced her relationship with fiance Sam Greenfield was over – but pals say she feels like a ‘weight’s lifted’

Suzanne Shaw is “heartbroken” after her devastating split – but is determined to move on. The Hear’Say singer, 44, shocked fans when she shared in an Instagram post that she’d broken up with her fiancé of 12 years, Sam Greenfield.

Suzanne revealed they’d called it a day in January, and she had spent the past two months dealing with the “messy” break-up. The singer and businessman Sam got engaged in 2014, welcoming their son, Rafferty, the following year. The star also has son Corey, 21, with her ex Darren Day.

And now, a source close to the singer told the Mirror, “Suzanne is in a really delicate place. But she felt it was like therapy to go public about her marriage split.”

They added, “She didn’t intend to, but she felt she’d been living a lie, telling friends she was OK when she wasn’t. So putting it out there felt like a weight off – and the support of the public, as well as family and friends, has been a real source of comfort.”

In the tearful video, Suzanne confessed, “I’ve just been navigating some stuff in my life which is a break-up that I’m going through at the moment.

“I genuinely did not expect I’d be saying this out loud… it’s been tough, it’s been really tough. I wasn’t actually going to say anything online, I wasn’t going to address this at all.

“But I thought that the nature of my account is all about mental health – my struggles with my mental health, quitting alcohol, changing my lifestyle, taking up running… all of the things that have brought me stability.”

She added, “It’s been tricky but my goodness, thank God I’ve got the tools to navigate this. Thank God it’s been six years of not drinking, six years of dedicating my life to my personal development.”

“I’ve not been perfect through this and it’s been a bit messy, but I’ve been able to tap into therapy and meditation, running, understanding I need to eat well and that I need to just lean into this pain and heal.

“And it is a new chapter of deep healing now because I’m going into the era of having the greatest love affair with myself.”

Suzanne’s announcement may have seemed out of the blue, but she and Sam hadn’t been snapped out publicly since 2022 — the last time being at the press night for Sister Act: The Musical .

She hinted all was not well last month, sharing a Valentine’s Day tribute – to herself. The post included the words, “Don’t settle, even if it means life will be a little uncomfortable for a while. Something wonderful could be waiting for you.”

However, it’s not the first time Suzanne has had to navigate a painful break-up. She was previously engaged to Celebrity Big Brother star Darren, who walked out on her on Mother’s Day when their son Corey was just seven weeks old.

Discussing the incident last year on Vanessa Feltz’s 5 show, Suzanne revealed that Darren “pretty much went out to get a curry and didn’t come back”.

Before her engagement to Sam, Suzanne was married to Heart FM presenter Jason King from 2009 to 2012, but they blamed their split on work pressures.

As our source claims, “She’s been feeling lonely and lost — she needs to find herself again. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but she’s determined to come out the other side. She’s been through heartache before and she can do it again.”
