Pop star Lee Latchford-Evans, best known as a member of Steps, has revealed a private health battle on Instagram and fans on social media have rushed to support him

Lee Latchford-Evans has opened up about a private healthcare battle. The pop star, 51, best known as a member of 90s juggernaut Steps took to social media where he shared a snap of himself back in the recording studio.

But alongside the post, the singer revealed that last year, he had been diagnosed with a vocal condition that is caused by excessive fatigue within the larynx.

He wrote on Instagram: “It’s been a long time coming but feels great to be back in the studio with this wonderful human @eoinmallon working on my voice rehabilitation & vocal technique. Last year I was diagnosed with Muscle Tension Dysphonia & had numerous scans, tubes down throat & hospital rehab. I managed to work through it but my voice has never quite been the same.”

Lee shot to fame alongside Faye Tozer, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee and Ian ‘H’ Watkins in the late 1990s. They achieved a run of hit singles like Tragedy and Deeper Shade of Blue before disbanding in 2001. In more recent years, the group have successfully reunited and enjoyed further success with tracks like Scared of the Dark and What the Future Holds, amongst a host of others.

Outside of the band, Lee is a regular in pantomime and recently starred in the musical &Juliet, which features the music of pop stars like Britney Spears and Katy Perry, but teased that there is more to come from his own recording career, and he is determined to power through with his MTD.

He added: “We now have a plan & today was the first step (pardon the pun) on this singing journey. Like the song, I’m a man on a mission & looking forward to my next session!” Fans rushed to the comments section of the post to support the star.

One wrote: “Feel better soon Lee. I love when you sing, always a treat to hear your voice!” Another said: “Glad you are managing to work through it. Sending lots of love xxx,” whilst a third wrote: “You can and you will do it. You are such a determined human! Can’t wait to see you back to doing what you love! You’ve got this!”

Other fans were looking forward to the band’s next big anniversary when they turn 30 next year. One wrote: “Getting vocal ready to start recording the next steps album… the big 3 0 is upon us,” and another said: “we need you fighting fit for the 30th anniversary!”

Speaking to OK! shortly after, the couple explained why Leo arrived by C-section, with Lee describing the birth as “traumatic”. The baby was in a breech position and Kerry was suffering with pre-eclampsia.

Despite the procedure being scheduled, there was still complications, as the anaesthetic didn’t seem work at first. Kerry told OK!: “I went for a 36-week scan and they could see that he was breech.

“He was in a really weird position. They did say I could have him naturally, but the safest way is a C-section. And then on top of that I had pre-eclampsia, so there were all sorts of medical issues going on.”
