Soccer team asks Madonna for its shirt back on X, and she gives this confusing reply

The Material Girl’s shirt is part of the history of this soccer team — and they wanted it back.

The Spanish soccer club Celta Vigo reached out to Madonna this week about its sky-blue shirt she sported over three decades ago, and she opened her heart to them — with a confusing reply.

During her Blonde Ambition tour in 1990, Madge performed at Celta Vigo’s home turf, Balaidos Stadium, and donned a soccer shirt with the team’s colors and the No. 5 for its then-defender, the late Jose Manuel Espinosa.

On Wednesday, the team’s president Marián Mouriño Terrazo penned a letter to the Queen of Pop and posted it on X, asking her if she knew the whereabouts of the vintage article of clothing — because they hoped to add it to their archives.

“Do you have it? If you know where it may be, or if you would like to join us in the search to retrieve it, please contact us via private message,” Terrazo wrote.

“Although it was not the only football jersey you wore on stage, that image began to shine differently over the years. Because we better understand what you were defending back then: challenging the established order and standing up to those who presume to tell you what you can or cannot do. In the club I preside over, we recognize ourselves in that way of being in the world. That’s why we have the hope of finding this garment. This search is not a whim; it is an act of memory, it is the emotional heritage of our club.”

On Saturday, the songtress replied to the inquiry, with an X post that said, “This shirt is hanging in my archives! I am wearing and representing your team in spirit!!”

Fans commented on the fact that the seven-time Grammy winner — who is the best-selling female music artist of all time — didn’t actually respond to the team’s request.

“So … this means that you’re giving the shirt back? It’s confusing,” one asked.

“Classy … but she is not giving it back!” one quipped.
