A nine-month-old puppy has been rescued after surviving nine days alone on a snowy mountain in northern Greece. He survived without food and water.

The dog was found on Mount Tsoukarela, close to the town of Metsovo, at an altitude of about 1,900 meters.

The young dog, named Asproulis, normally lives in the village of Haliki with his owner, Christos Zacharis. According to Greek media, the puppy followed a group of hikers who had stayed overnight in the village. The dog then became lost on the steep, snow-covered mountain.

For nine days, the dog remained in the mountains without food in freezing conditions. Local climbers later decided to search for him after hearing he had gone missing.

During their climb, they heard a dog crying for help and eventually found Asproulis. The dog was very weak and thin.

The climbers gave the dog food and took him down the mountain. They later returned him safely to his owner. According to the rescuers, the puppy had lost so much weight that his collar was hanging loosely around his neck.

Because he survived the dangerous situation, the climbers gave him a new nickname: “Lucky.”
