TEHRAN- Representatives of the Supreme Council of Iranian Workers Association (SCIWA) in a letter addressed to Gilbert Houngbo, the Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), and Luc Triangle, the Secretary-General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), while condemning the recent aggression by the USA and Israel against Iran, called for the support of the ILO and the ITUC for the working community of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the face of the overt aggression by the USA and Israel. They declared: “Launch an international campaign demanding the cessation of the recent aggression by the USA and Israel.”
According to a report by the Public Relations and International Affairs Center of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare, part of the text of the letter from the representatives of legitimate workers’ associations in the Islamic Republic of Iran states: “As representatives of workers’ organizations in the Islamic Republic of Iran, defending the rights and dignity of workers who have lost their lives and jobs as a result of the overt military aggression by the United States of America and Israel against our country, we request that you, while condemning this inhumane act contrary to global peace and justice, do not spare any possible facilities and opportunities to prevent the continuation of the current situation and to assist in the critical conditions of Iranian workers and those in other countries of the region.”
The letter continues: “With great regret and sorrow, we inform you and world public opinion that the aggressive regimes of the USA and Israel, by instigating this inhumane war, have violated international borders and, by attacking the soil of our country, have caused the martyrdom of our dear Leader and Imam, and a large number of workers, teachers, students, doctors, and nurses in their workplaces. At the same time, due to the resulting war conditions, a large number of workers in the last month of the Iranian year and the days close to Nowruz have lost their businesses, and some of them have no hope of re-employment due to the destruction of their workplaces.”
In this letter, the representatives of legitimate workers’ associations in the Islamic Republic of Iran have emphasized: “This war, besides endangering the lives of Iranian workers and causing the loss of their jobs and livelihoods, has had grievous consequences for workers in the countries of the region and, by creating war conditions in the West Asia region, has led to the unemployment of a large number of workers in the countries of the region. Furthermore, by creating a global energy crisis, it has affected the livelihoods of all workers in the world.”
It further states: “We expect from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), in accordance with the ILO Constitution and in line with the implementation of international labor standards, especially fundamental principles and rights at work, that by condemning the conduct contrary to international law and norms of the two countries that started the war, they exert all their efforts to provide technical assistance aimed at improving the conditions of workers affected by this hostile act, particularly Iranian workers.”
The letter adds: “We expect the Director-General of the International Labor Organization and the President of the International Trade Union Confederation, in accordance with the Declaration of Philadelphia and in line with the realization of peace, global justice, full employment, and the raising of living standards, to highlight the dire situation of millions of workers and their families in response to the illegal and inhumane act of the initiators of this war to other international organizations and forums, and in an international campaign, demand the cessation of this aggression and provide the necessary assistance to eliminate the effects of this crisis from the lives of workers who have involuntarily suffered immense losses.”
