Lord Sear Dies At The Age Of 54, Here’s Why DJ Steve Watson Had A Special Connection With Eminem

Prominent DJ and Radio Host, Steve Watson, better known as Lord Sear, has passed away. He was widely admired in the Hip-Hop Community for his contribution to radio broadcasting. The news was confirmed through an official social media statement, which called him more than just a microphone. It stated that he was “a force, friend and family to so many”. Since the announcement, several colleagues and celebrities have shared tributes praising him as a rare, authentic voice in a crowded industry.

What do we know about Lord Sear’s death?

Until now, the exact cause of Lord Sear’s death has not been revealed to the public. But news reports from SiriusXM and other outlets said he passed away in March 11, 2025. But again, his family has requested privacy about the situation surrounding his death. Needless to say, the news about his death went viral in no time, inciting condolences from viewers who followed his shows for years. DJ Steven a.k.a Lord Sear is credited with keeping hip-hop culture alive. There is no major details about his family in the public eye except them confirming his death through an official social media post.

Several artists and personalities also expressed their condolences publicly. According to tributes reported by Hindustan Times, rapper Immortal Technique was among those who responded to the news. He shared a heartfelt message recalling his bond with Lord Sear, whom he considered a close friend and an important figure in the community. He penned, “Love you and miss you brother.” Another fan penned: 

“RIP Lord Sear. When we lose someone, I try my best to articulate how special they were. not just to me, but to the culture. but I loved Sear so much that I’m at a loss for words. in the literal sense. I’ll try again later and hopefully my mind will be a bit more clear.”

What was Lord Sear’s connection with Eminem? 

A key reason why Lord Sear was a well-known name in the hip-hop world was his strong professional relationship with rapper Eminem. Over the years, Lord Sear became closely linked to Eminem’s hip-hop radio station, Shade 45. Steve was a longtime host on the channel and played a significant role in shaping its programming. He spent more than two decades connected to the station and hosted several popular shows, including The All Out Show and later The Lord Sear Special. At the same time, he introduced audiences to classic hip-hop tracks, interviews, and commentary about the culture. Apart from radio, Lord Sear also toured with Eminem during parts of the early 2000s, further strengthening their professional bond.

Lord Sear built a career around music and voice acting spanning more than 30 years. He was raised in Harlem, New York, where he became famous for his deep knowledge of 1990s and early 2000s hip-hop. He became famous in the 1990s as a significant member of the prominent, Stretch and Bobbito Show, that played a key role to launch the careers of artists like Nas, Jay-Z, and Biggie Smalls. Later, he spent over 20 years as a primary host on Eminem’s Shade 45 channel and served as a tour DJ for Eminem on the Anger Management Tour.

Lord Sear was alsoba member of the Constantly Moving (CM) family with the artist Kurious. He could blend humor, commentary, and music on the radio, making him a popular host. Throughout his career,  collaborated with multiple artists in the hip-hop industry, such as MF DOOM, Big Pun, and the Beastie Boys. Additionally, he was known among the gaming fans for his voice role in the popular video game  Grand Theft Auto III.
