American actress, Kate Mansi is loved for her role in Days of Our Lives, in which she played the role of ‘Abigail Deveraux’. She even won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It was in 2023 when Kate joined the cast of General Hospital in the role of ‘Kristina Davis’.
Kate Mansi opened up about her scary health condition
In an interaction with PEOPLE, Kate talked about her scary health condition, which got worse due to negligence. In an interview with PEOPLE, Kate revealed that while filming Days of Our Lives, she experienced immense pain, cramping and heavy bleeding. Though she sought emergency care, the doctors dismissed it as a ‘bad period’ or complications from IUD implantation.
Her pain kept increasing to the point that she felt painful cramps, which escalated to vomiting and skin discolouration. Her stomach too got so swollen up that it was unbearable. Talking about it, she said:
“I’ve never gone through childbirth, but it felt like I was having extreme contractions. They would say action, I would do my scene, and then the second they said cut, I was literally doubled over in pain. My stomach was so distended that I couldn’t even zip up my pants.”
Kate Mansi revealed how her stepdad saved her life
After experiencing immense pain, when Kate went to the emergency care again, the doctors discovered an 11-cm mass in her abdomen. It was reportedly formed after an undetected ovarian cyst. It was her stepdad, who got ‘so frustrated’ with the negligence, that he decided to perform an emergency surgery.
Mansi’s stepdad was an ob-gyn and was technically free to perform the surgery since he had no blood relation with her. Speaking about how her stepdad saved her life, the actress shared:

“He scrubbed in himself and was like, ‘I’m not waiting for an oncologist. I’m gonna do the surgery, or she’s not gonna make it.’ He did a surgery that ended up saving my life. My stepdad told me, ‘You have endometriosis and this is what that means.’ And that was the first time I had ever even heard that word.”

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue that would normally only grow inside the uterus starts developing outside. It is a very painful condition and can cause major problems to the uterus and ovaries. Endometriosis can lead to abnormal periods and complicated childbirth.
