Britney Spears’ former husband Sam Asghari has defended his ex-wife during a new interview, saying that the chart-topper is ‘strong’ and made ‘mistakes’ after her arrest

Britney Spears‘ ex-husband has said, “everybody makes mistakes,” after the singer was arrested last week. Britney, 44, was arrested last week for Driving Under the Influence by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office on March 5.

The global hitmaker was later assigned a booking number after being arrested shortly after 9:30pm local time and detained until around 3am. She was released just hours later.

Reports claim that the Toxic singer was “crying a lot” while she was being booked by police. But now, her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, has spoken out, saying that people “make mistakes”.

During a new interview, Sam, who split from Britney in August 2023, opened up about his ex-wife, having seen her struggles first-hand. He went on to explain that he believes Britney had been “oppressed”. Speaking about the events unfolding in Iran, Sam, said: “And, in a way, not comparing the situation whatsoever, she was also oppressed by many people that took advantage of her and sort of had the same experience as women do in Iran.

“And that’s as someone that’s an advocate for women’s rights and wants freedom of speech and wants freedom for everybody, it was hard to believe and hard to see that someone in America was being oppressed.”

Speaking to Piers Morgan on his show, Uncensored, Sam added: “So I admire her very well. I’ve seen what she struggles with. Even though we were married for one year, we were together for seven years. So my values for her, my respect for her always stands.

“And you know, when we go back to history, if we look at TMZ and all the press that took this and sort of reported everything, that was something that didn’t help her. So I’m a strong believer that she needs her privacy. And everybody makes mistakes.

“And if she made a mistake, I really think she’s a strong woman and she could come back from this. But I think my word is for the press to stay away from this and to be able to allow her privacy and allow her for a great recovery.” Sam said that he wishes nothing “but the best” for Britney and will always support her well-being and believes she will “recover” from her arrest.

Shortly after Britney’s arrest, her manager said: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

Britney is yet to publicly comment on her arrest, but has since deactivated her Instagram account, where she would frequently share risqué videos of herself dancing.
