Kate Ferdinand’s Mother’s Day plans to travel to the UK and spend time with her whole brood could be unravelled, due to disruption of flights amid the Iran war.
The 34 year old star revealed her plans to travel from Dubai to London in a pre-recorded version of her podcast, Blended, which has been released this week. At the beginning of the YouTube video version of the podcast, it’s explained that the episode was captured on February 26, before Iran began strikes across the Middle East, including Dubai.
Kate moved to the UAE with husband Rio Ferdinand and their youngest children last year, leaving the rest of their family behind in Essex.
In the episode, Kate says of her Mother’s Day plans: “I’m actually flying home. We’re flying home on Mother’s Day because I just – we don’t want to leave the boys. It can be a great day. I just feel like we need to be together. We’re ok, we can get through anything when we’re together.

“So we’re flying home. We’re going to spend the day together. We’ve got no actual plans because we’re just gonna see how the day goes but just being together, I actually can’t… I’m anxious for the day but also just can’t wait to be together so, yeah, I’m gonna be in London on Mother’s Day.”
The strikes across the Middle East were sparked after Israel and the USA attacked Iran at the end of February, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has been striking several areas across the Middle East, including Dubai – with a drone strike hitting near Dubai’s airport earlier this week, which caused the airport to temporarily shut down. A number of flight operators have cancelled their services to and from destinations in the Middle East, including Dubai.
This means that Kate’s hopes to jet back to the UK may be scuppered. Kate, her husband Rio Ferdinand and their children Cree, four, and Shae, two, as well as Rio’s daughter Tia, 14, moved to Dubai in August last year for a “fresh start”. Rio’s older sons from his marriage to the late Rebecca Ellison Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 17, remained back in the UK to pursue their football careers.
Before the war broke out, Kate admitted she was struggling after the big move to the UAE. Speaking in February, Kate revealed: “I miss the big boys a lot and I’m just struggling with that.
“I know this decision is right for my younger children and as a family we are settled there, but the boys are following their football careers.” She added: “So they’re doing what they want to do otherwise they’d be with us. But it’s very hard because we’ve been through so much as a family and we’ve always been together and that’s a huge adjustment.”
Elsewhere in the latest episode of the podcast, Kate revealed she didn’t want her husband to post a tribute to her on Mother’s Day. Speaking on her Blended podcast, she said: “I don’t want Rio to post me on Mother’s Day. I really, really don’t. Because I don’t want him to be in a… I wouldn’t feel comfortable in him posting me without Lorenz, Tate and Tia’s mum. It’s complex. I don’t mind, like, I know you love me, I know the kids love me and I’m confident with that.
“Sometimes, as long as… who cares what everyone else thinks. I don’t care if people think that Rio don’t post me on Mother’s Day, I know he loves me. Sometimes you’ve got to just think about that. You’re loved, you’re safe, you’re okay – f**k everyone else.”
