Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has hit out at people on social media who judge women’s bodies
Jesy Nelson has hit out in a social media rant in which she slams women who objectify and scrutinise other women’s bodies. The mum-of-two, who recently announced that her baby twin girls have SMA, posted on her Instagram story to voice her anger.
The former Little Mix star, 34, wrote: “Morning rant lol I really can’t bare when I see pages posting about women’s’ weight. Whether it’s they’ve lost too much weight or put on weight. Who gives a flying f***? Let people live and do what makes them feel good.
“Women are more than their bodies, but we continue to keep objectifying and constantly making it a thing. But the worst part about it is the majority of the people commenting on these posts are WOMEN.”

The post that followed her comments showed Euphoria actress Barbie Ferreira posing for photos. The account, which posts viral memes and videos, wrote: “Barbie Ferreira made a striking appearance at the Jean Paul Gaultier presentation during Paris Fashion Week in Paris, stepping out in a dramatic black dress featuring a bold midriff cutout and sheer detailing that revealed her ribcage tattoo.

“Ferreira, best known for portraying Kat Hernandez on HBO’s Euphoria, has been in the spotlight in recent years as her appearance evolved following a significant weight loss that first became noticeable around 2024.” Jesy added: “Prime example.”
Jesy has spoken out previously after her experience with online trolls left her suicidal, with the singer attempting to take her own life. She spoke candidly about the trolling on her BBC Three documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out.
Speaking about her obsession with looking through nasty social media posts about herself, she said that her lowest point was after a performance on The X Factor back in 2013. Jesy felt as though she “couldn’t take it any longer”, and said: “I felt that I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain any more.”
After the heartbreaking suicide attempt, Jesy spoke to her bandmates, family and friends about what had happened, but added: “Once it was spoken about, it wasn’t ever spoken about again”. She also said that she used to starve herself before major events and photoshoots.
Jesy said: “Our schedule was so gruelling. I was going to see a therapist at six o’clock in the morning, crying, and then going to a photoshoot. I felt I had to be this person who was like … ‘I don’t care what people are saying about me, I’m this strong woman.’
“That was the role I had to take on in the group, when really I was an absolute mess.” Jesy continued: “I think this is important because social media is such a huge part of everyone’s lives.
“You can say one nasty comment and think they’re not going to see it, it doesn’t mean anything to you. But it does, it affects people massively.”
More recently, Jesy has been campaigning for better testing for newborns after her twins were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. She gave birth prematurely to daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe in May 2025, after complications with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).
SMA is a genetic condition that affects the motor neurons, causing progressive muscle weakness and wasting (atrophy). According to the NHS, it can affect a child’s ability to sit up, crawl, or walk, and may also cause difficulties with breathing and swallowing. The condition occurs in an estimated one in 10,000 births, with type 1 accounting for around 60 per cent of cases.
