Star Trek legend William Shatner has been forced to undergo an operation to fix an issue following a horse riding accident last year

William Shatner has had to undergo surgery following a nasty accident. The incident left fans fearing the worst for the Star Trek icon, who is weeks away from celebrating his 95th birthday.

William underwent shoulder surgery this week to try to put right an injury from late last year. The star fell from his horse while competing in equine skills riding, leaving his loyal legion of fans fearful for his well-being.

The injury saw him fall off the animal which had been trained for high-speed competitive manoeuvres. “I’m not a young stuntman anymore,” he confessed as he revealed he “wrecked my shoulder” after “hitting the dirt”.

And he opened up on the surgical procedure to fix the issue during a recent appearance in California. The legendary actor was attending the 53rd annual Saturn Awards where he was honoured with a Hall of Fame award recognising his huge contribution to the iconic Star Trek franchise.

Speaking on the red carpet, he said: “You put the ball in the socket and the socket in the thing, and you come out 10 hours later, and you’re pain-free.” He said it was a new operation “called a reverse something or other”.

However, despite fears for his health, William was keen to shut down claims he had “shattered” his shoulder. Taking to social media on Thursday, the star said: “So I understand that tabloids say my shoulder was shattered. Dramatic. Colorful. Completely untrue.”

He continued his Instagram post: “It was a routine procedure.” He also shared an image of an injured shoulder.

Last year, William also had to play down claims his health was failing him after he was rushed to hospital. He was thought to have experienced a medical emergency involving his blood sugar levels. The actor reportedly called emergency services who dashed to his property in Los Angeles yesterday, and paramedics took him to hospital.

But a day later, William posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, to tell fans “I’m perfectly fine.” He went on to add: “I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine.”

Another added: “Glad you’re okay, Bill. I’ve a good mind to place a bet on you reaching at least 100 years-old!”.
