Sports leagues making it harder to watch games is reaching insulting level —with no end in sight

Alvin Tarshis loves the NBA. He loves the Knicks. He’s 88 years old, and he’s lived in Boca Raton, Fla., since 1997, and a few years back, a most delightful creation came into his life: NBA League Pass. This meant he could watch most every game played in the NBA, but most notably, he’d be able to follow his Knicks as he did when he lived in Lefrak City and Forest Hills.

This came with some caveats, sure.

“It was clearly understood that if a game was televised on ESPN, TNT, the NBA Channel, ABC or NBC, the game would not be available on League Pass,” he says. “That was fine because you could still see the game for free on those channels with the exception of the NBA channel, though most fans probably get that one, too.”

And I can vouch for this: Alvin isn’t someone who watches a game here, a game there. He watches them all. The morning after most Knicks games, I can expect in my email inbox a full report from Alvin on whatever transpired the night before.
