Brescia defeated Savona 15:11 in the big derby of the 19th round of the Serie A1 and kept 2nd place in the standings.
Brescia is now six points ahead of 3rd-placed Savona.
The derby was practically decided in the first half. Brescia built a 6:2 lead already in the first quarter, scoring all six goals after Savona players’ personal fouls (four with an extra man and two from the penalty line). Vlado Popadic made it 7:2 from a 6 on 6 early in the second quarter. Bresca maintained a five-goal difference until the end of the first half (10:5). In the second half, the hosts stretched the margin to six on two occasions (11:5 and 13:7). Savona reduced the gap at the finish.
Vlado Popadic scored six goals to help Brescia secure a 15:11 victory. Vincenzo Dolce added three goals. Brescia’s defense successfully shut out the league’s top scorer, Oliver Leinweber, who didn’t find the net. Bruni, Rizzo, and Guidi each scored two goals for Savona.
Pro Recco beat Telimar 21:12, with three goals from Francesco Di Fulvio and Rino Buric.
Posillipo edged Canottieri in the Naples derby – 11:10. At halftime, the sides were tied at 6:6. Posillipo got off to an excellent start in the second half, going on a 5:2 run. Midway through the fourth quarter, Posillipo led 11:8. Canottieri scored two late goals, but Posillipo saved all three points.
Trieste worked hard to earn two points in the game against Quinto. It was a game full of twists and turns. Quinto had a 4:2 lead at the first break. Trieste came back into the match in a 13-goal second quarter. Francesco Faraglia put Trieste in front, 10:9, just a second before the middle break. However, Quinto dictated the pace in the second half. The visitors entered the final quarter with a 15:13 lead. Midway through the fourth period, Trieste netted two goals to level at 15:15. In the rest of the match, Quinto took a 1-goal lead twice, but Trieste leveled on both occasions. Just six seconds before the final buzzer, Mezzarobba made it 17:17 and prolonged the match to a shootout. Trieste recorded a 21:20 victory after the shots from the 5m line.
Cubranic and Draskovic were Trieste’s top scorers with four goals each. Gogov scored four for Quinto.
De Akker beat Roma Vis Nova 15:12 and climbed to 6th place ahead of Quinto.
