Shaun Wallace, best known as one of the star quizzers on ITV’s The Chase, has opened up about some of the “extremely bad habits” he has managed to overcome
Shaun Wallace used to smoke up to 30 cigarettes a day. The champion quizzer, 65, best known as part of The Chase alongside Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan, Mark Labbett, Darragh Ennis and Paul Sinha, has confessed that he tends to be “obsessed” with lighting up.
Revealing that he would also have a huge amount of sugar in his tea and coffee, the star admitted he tends to be “obsessed” with various things in life before suddenly losing interest.
He said: “I’ve always got bad habits, and extreme bad habits too. I used to have eight sugars in my coffee and in my tea. Then I stopped completely. And cigarettes too, I used to smoke 20 to 30 cigarettes a day. Then I just stopped.”

Speaking to The Sun, he added: “So in terms of extremes, you know, one minute I’m obsessed and the next minute, I’m completely the other way. So I suppose that’s the Gemini nature of my sort of existence, actually.” Over the last few years, Shaun’s co-star Mark has more than 10 stone and after losing three stone himself, Shaun has nothing but praise for his fellow quizzer.
He added: “I’m really glad that Mark had lost the weight that he had because he did have health issues in terms of. Fair play to him to basically grabbing the bull by the horns and basically taking control of his physical and mental well-being. I’ve always tried to do that myself and we definitely are pleased for each other and the progress we’ve both made.

Opening up about his incredible body transformation, Mark previously told us : “I’ve been a yo-yo dieter and my heaviest was about 29st, then I got fit and was down to about 25st. But I’ve always actually been surprisingly fit. Even at 25st I could do a proper pumping hour on the cross trainer.”
Of his weight now, he admitted: “I’ve been meaning to go and get a set of bathroom scales. My guess is about 18st, maybe in the 17s. I’ve got roughly the same physique as I had when I was playing rugby at 18 years old, but I’ve got less muscle so that might take it down even more.”
One of my life goals, because I was a more mature father when Lawrence appeared, is to see him graduate. He’ll be 21 when I’m 71, 72, and that’s my mission.
“I’m just happy he’s a well-adjusted young man. He’s inherited my maths ability, which I’m not upset about either. He’s healthy, smart and tall – what more could you want?”
Having been diagnosed with diabetes back in 2017, Mark began wearing a Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring Patch last year, which has helped both his diabetes and his weight-loss goals. He added: “I’d lost a bit of weight before then, but last winter I had my first real attack of arthritis and it was a shock to the system because up to that point you think you’re immortal.
“Then suddenly, when you struggle to walk up stairs, you realise you’re not. I’d been gradually letting my glucose levels slide and enjoyed too many cheats, so when I put the monitor on I was shocked by my glucose levels
