However, months after the incident, Kristin Cabot sat down for a candid conversation with Oprah and reflected on what had gone down behind the scenes following the video’s viral spread.

Kristin Cabot was unhappy with the comments made by Ryan Reynolds and Gwyneth Paltrow. The former HR head revealed that when the stars decided to make a tongue-in-cheek ad weighing in on the Coldplay “kiss cam” controversy that derailed her life, it felt rather unnecessary. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey on March 17, 2026 (ET), Kristin looked back at the incident at a concert last summer, in which she was caught on camera in the arms of her then-boss, Andy Byron. She was quoted as saying:

“It just felt really hypocritical to me and unnecessary.”

Kristin Cabot and Andy Byron worked at Astronomer, a tech company. She was the head of human relations, and he was the CEO. While both were assumed to be married at the time, it was later revealed that Kristin was in the process of divorcing her husband, whereas she believed Andy was, too. However, the latter never publicly commented on the incident. They both soon resigned and were swamped with memes, mockery and more after footage of the ‘Kiss Cam’ moment went massively viral. However, the fallout of the same was extremely adverse. Kristin Cabot revealed that the aftermath of the video was that she received a wave of criticism, harassment and death threats that disproportionately focused on her over Andy Byron.

While Kristin Cabot’s world fell apart, the reactions from her former company, Astronomer, in late July 2025, starring Gwyneth Paltrow (Chris Martin’s ex), poked fun at the company’s unexpected moment in the headlines. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort worked on the ad, too. In a sit-down for The Oprah Podcast, Kristin Cabot called out Gwyneth for her role in the video. She was quoted as saying:

“That was really disappointing to me. I felt like Gwyneth, someone whose company [Goop] is founded on or framed around uplifting women and women’s well-being … she doesn’t need the money. I don’t know why she felt she needed to throw gas on the fire and get involved in all of this.”

Kristin Cabot also criticised Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively for poking fun at the ‘Kiss Cam’ drama. Talking to Oprah, he shared that the ad he produced after the Coldplay concert fiasco was no better. She went on to point out that his own wife, Blake Lively, had gone through a similar situation. Kristin was referring to Blake’s legal battle with her former It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, claiming sexual harassment and retaliation, which he has denied. She was quoted as saying:

“I don’t wanna let Ryan Reynolds off the hook either. He produced the ad, he created it, and his wife [Blake Lively] has just gone through something really similar over the last year.”

In the same conversation, Oprah Winfrey further reflected on how she spoke with Gwyneth Paltrow about the ad, and she revealed that she had only agreed to be a part of it because she thought it was consented. The podcaster revealed that “she was told that you and Andy Byron had signed off”, which they had not. Kristin Cabot later revealed that Gwyneth had “communicated that to me as well.”

Kristin Cabot is still struggling to find employment months after the incident. And that feeling has irked Coldplay for her. Talking to Operah, she revealed that she was once a huge fan of the band, but that has changed since the concert.
