A man has died in hospital days after falling from a cliff north of Brisbane, three days after his companion died in the same incident.

A woman identified as Lorielle Georgina was declared dead at Mount Beerwah after the fall while hiking on Sunday, and Jack Thatcher was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Police confirmed on Wednesday he had succumbed to his injuries.

The two 18-year-olds had fallen between 60 metres and 90 metres from a trail before 10.30am on March 15, with police suspecting slippery conditions may have been responsible.

Search and rescue crews rappelled down the drop to retrieve the hikers.

The Mount Beerwah trail had been closed to the public following heavy rains in the Sunshine Coast region.

Mount Beerwah is the highest peak within the Glasshouse Mountains National Park, measuring 556 metres at its summit.

Emergency services returned to the same trail on Wednesday to rescue an injured hiker.

Two fire crews and paramedics arrived at the scene about 7am on Wednesday after receiving a call that a pair of hikers needed rescuing.

One hiker was injured, and the other hiker had remained with them.
