Axed Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has announced the upcoming release of his tell-all book, titled Gio My Story almost two years after his axing from the show

Giovanni Pernice hints new book will reveal Strictly rollercoaster

Giovanni Pernice is set to spill his side of the story on the Strictly Come Dancing drama almost two years on from being axed from the BBC show.

The professional dancer, 35, was once one of the show’s most beloved pros – but allegations made by Amanda Abbington about Giovanni’s alleged conduct during rehearsals together resulted in the Italian dancer leaving the popular BBC Saturday night staple. Actress Amanda had accused Giovanni of being “unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean” during rehearsals, something he has always strongly denied.

The BBC later apologised to Amanda, 52, after an investigation upheld some of her complaints about Giovanni, but cleared him of the most serious allegations. The investigation upheld complaints of bullying and harassment but claims of physical aggression were not upheld, the BBC reported.

Giovanni was then out of the 2024 line-up for the show. Almost two years on, the Italian dancer has announced his upcoming memoir, in which he teased he’s set to reveal stories not told before – including about his time on Strictly.

Speaking in a video to tease the upcoming memoir, which is set for release in August this year, Giovanni said: “Hello everyone, it’s me Giovanni Pernice. I’m here because I want to talk to you about my book. My book is a memoir, it’s a story of my life since when I was a child, to Strictly and beyond, of course. So we’re going to discuss things that you probably don’t know about – information that you want to know.”

“So go and check it out,” he instructed before the camera cuts to a mock-up of his book, titled Gio My Story. The book which is set for release on August 27 this year, is available for pre-order.

As the video was posted on Instagram, he wrote in the caption: “I’m so excited to let you all know that I have a book coming out this year, my memoir; Gio: My Story.

“It’s my chance to share the journey that took me from Sicily to Strictly Come Dancing, the highs, the challenges and everything in between. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the people who’ve supported me along the way, and I’m proud to finally tell my story.

“My Story is available to pre-order now, including some signed copies, via the link in my bio.” Giovanni continued: “I can’t wait to hear what you think, and I really hope you enjoy it” before signing off with a red heart emoji.

It comes after Amanda doubled down on claims she made about Giovanni while appearing on White Wine Question Time podcast in May last year. She explained: “I wish nobody ill will. I just didn’t like how I was treated, that was all it was. It was never a witch hunt, I never wanted to tear anybody down.

“I just felt I wasn’t being treated fairly in that room and I’d been treated rather badly and just didn’t want that to happen to somebody like my daughter or anybody else’s daughter.” The TV star went on: “I just wanted to highlight that sometimes bad behaviour manifests itself in very different ways and what is acceptable for one person isn’t acceptable for another.”
