Actress Reese Witherspoon has shared the wild clause she had written into her contract for Legally Blonde 2 after seeing the success of the first film – and she doesn’t regret a thing

It hit cinema screens 25 years ago – and it is just as iconic today. Legally Blonde, a 2001 comedy, is considered a cult classic by its loyal fans, who continue to rewatch it and quote lines from the film in 2026.

Directed by Robert Luketic and written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith, the film secured a place in fans’ hearts thanks to its storyline and the performance of lead actress Reese Witherspoon. However, all these years on, fans are only just discovering a surprising clause Witherspoon had written into her contract for Legally Blonde 2, after seeing how successful the first film was.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Witherspoon revealed that she had it written into her contract that she would get to keep all of her wardrobe.

As a result, she took home around 77 pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes – and kept them untouched in storage until the film’s 15th anniversary, when she brought them out to try on.

She said: “Some of them fit, some of them didn’t. I showed them all to my daughter – it was really cool.”

Commenting on the clip, one user said: “Proving that Reese is super smart.”

Another user added: “Love Reese sooooo much in this interview!”

A third user said: “I’m not even sure I’ve owned 77 pairs of shoes throughout my life.”

One more user added: “Smart. She asked for it in the contract to keep them? Such a cute story.”

It comes as the movie star prepares to celebrate her 50th birthday on Sunday (March 22), marking around four decades in show business after joining the industry at just 11 years old.

In a recent Instagram video, she said: “I just got off the phone with a young woman who is looking for career advice and wants to switch from one job to another. She’s very unhappy in her current job.

“So I said, ‘Okay, what are your talents?’ And she had a hard time telling me what her specific talents were. That really stood out to me.

“This is very, very important: you don’t chase your dreams – you chase your talents. Everybody has dreams, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to become that thing. You’re supposed to do what you’re naturally talented at.

“So it’s your job in life to figure out what your unique talents are and go after those. That’s what you should chase – your talents, not your dreams.”

Responding to this, one fan said: “It’s magic when your talents align with your dreams, or when you recognise your talents can support your dreams.”

Another added: “YES girl, could not agree more!”

A third fan said: “Very safe advice from a very talented woman. Brava, Reese!”
