Irish star Ruth Codd candidly revealed the reason why she had to have her second leg amputated weeks after her short-but-sweet appearance on Celebrity Traitors last year

Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd has walked the red carpet for the first time since having her second leg amputated.

The 29-year-old Irish actress’ first leg was amputated seven years ago after a football injury which failed to heal properly. That meant that her “joints were destroyed” by years of using crutches, which left her in agony.

Towards the end of 2025, she announced her second leg had now been removed below the knee – sharing a post on TikTok in a wheelchair while staying at her parents house as she recovers. The star explained that she decided to have her other leg amputated as she had already had all of her toes removed.

This weekend, Ruth, glammed up as she attended the performance of West End show Hadestown. She looked super stylish in her feathered green mini dress. Bringing her mum Rita along with her, they joined Vanessa Feltz, Strictly star Nikita Kuzmin and Traitors winner Stephen Libbey.

She shared her reasons for the second amputation in an interview in December, saying it was to increase her “quality of life” after already having all her toes removed in 2021. The Midnight Club actress said that doctors told her that her foot was unlikely to ever get any better and it had made it more difficult for her to work.

Speaking in the interview, she said: “It’s just that this foot, I was on crutches for the bones of eight years and the way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end of the eight years.

“And it’s just kind of the same thing, it’s gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it. I’ve already had to have all my toes amputated. So I’ve no toes, so my foot looks like a little hamburger.”

Speaking on Under The Skin with Grace Neutral, she added: “With the second one, it’s just the same situation, it was just my quality of life, it’s never going to get any better from this point, they can only kind of stop it from getting worse, and the amount of health problems and stuff I’ve had in the last year.

“I haven’t let it stop me from doing anything. but I feel like it has hindered me and made my ability to do my job more difficult. And I’ve been through it once before, so I think with two prosthetics I’ll be pretty unstoppable.”

Talking about what it is like going through the recovery process, Ruth said she would have to spend at least a month waiting for the limb to heal before she can use a prosthetic.

Ruth was part of the first series of Celebrity Traitors however, her time on there was cut short when she became the third contestant to leave the show and left after just four episodes.

She left the programme after the Traitors chose to “murder” her when she correctly guessed Jonathan Ross as being one of them. The ITV star was unmasked as a Traitor much later in the series, after Ruth had gone.
