Harry Potter has remained one of the globally-loved film series that, over the years, turned out to be not just a comfort watch but also something that is tied to emotion. Warner Bros. adapted J.K Rowling’s novel series into an eight-part film series, and the rest is history. Well, it was announced last Spring that a reboot might hit soon. For the unversed, HBO will release a TV series based on Harry Potter, not a movie. Each book will run through each season, for a total of 8 seasons.
With the announcement of Harry Potter making its way to the small screens through HBO, Potterheads were left super excited, and no sooner than the teaser of the first season, Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone was dropped, than they were over the moon. Well, some fans were still left confused. So, let’s have a look at the reactions along with the estimated salaries of the entirely new cast of the Harry Potter HBO series.
HBO’s Harry Potter TV series: How did the Potterheads react to the trailer?
The HBO series of Harry Potter will introduce an entirely new cast with Dominic McLaughlin playing ‘Harry Potter’, Arabella Stanton being the new ‘Hermione Granger’, and Alastair Stout playing the role of ‘Ron Weasley’. The expectation is high for the trio, with the OGs already setting the bar so high that now watching the teaser not only ended up making people nostalgic but also already made them come to the comparison ground. In the series, John Lithgow will play the role of ‘Headmaster Albus Dumbledore’ while Janet McTeer will be seen as ‘Professor Minerva McGonagall’, and Paapa Essiedu will play the role of ‘Professor Severus Snape’.
With the trailer being out, viewers shared their reactions. Some remained excited and already a fan of HBO’s adaptation, some felt 10 years old again, while some couldn’t contain the emotion. On the other hand, some Potterheads believe that nothing can come and take the place of the OGs, with many others sharing the same belief.
HBO is expected to delve even deeper into the Boy Wizard’s world, since each book will turn into an entire season, so minute-to-minute details will be seemingly out, with the viewers having something to be hooked onto, although it’s understandable the nostalgia that will hit when watching ‘Harry Potter’ reach Hogwarts. Coming to the new debate over the series, it was Paapa Essiedu being cast as ‘Snape’ that left viewers talking. Paapa Essiedu has earlier talked about the racist abuse he had to face while being cast as ‘Snape’. Well, with the teaser being dropped, the discussion started yet again, with people pointing out Rowling describing ‘Snape’ as a pale, thin, greasy-haired white man, triggering a debate all over again.

Harry Potter TV series: Estimated salaries of the cast members
While not officially confirmed, earlier, it was revealed that the budget of the Harry Potter TV series will be USD 100 million per season, with the total project reaching USD 4.2 billion, so there’s no doubt that it’s a huge project for HBO. Speaking about the cast’s salary, Brand expert Nick Ede explained to The Mail that the lead trio, Dominic, Arabella and Alastair hit the jackpot.
Nick shared how the OG ‘Harry Potter’, Daniel Radcliffe started from USD 1 million for first film to USD 50 million for the last two parts along with global fame, so keeping that, if not that much, as per him, the new cast, mainly the trio might earn USD 1 million per season to begin with, which can even reach upto USD 10-20 million for the finale. Nick could be quoted as saying:
“Daniel Radcliffe was paid £1 million for his first film, and that went up to £50 million for the last two. It’s not just the financial gain, but the global fame will also bring endorsements and deals for them. I can imagine them at least being paid £1 million per series to begin with, and then you could even see them commanding £10 to £20 million each by the end of the seventh season – or even more.”
