Britain’s Got Talent judge and Heart Radio presenter Amanda Holden sought medical attention after fearing she had a potentially life-threatening infection

Amanda Holden revealed she was once rushed to A&E in an ambulance over suspected peritonitis, an infection of the inner lining of the abdomen. According to the NHS, if left untreated, it can become life-threatening – though thankfully this wasn’t the case for Amanda.

Back on the airwaves on Heart Radio this week, the 55-year-old and Jamie Theakston asked listeners to share their “ridiculous” A&E stories, ahead of being joined by Noah Wyle from the medical series The Pitt.

After Jamie encouraged, “the more daft reasons, the better,” Amanda kicked things off by remembering a friend who, she claims, went to A&E after burning her nose on a lit Sambuca. Sharing her own hospital tale, she laughed while revealing the true reason for her visit.

“Do you know that I was rushed to A&E when I was young with suspected peritonitis,” Amanda revealed. “I had an ambulance come, everyone got me there and I was put in this ward and everyone was running around and then this doctor felt my tummy, gave me some peppermint water and I did the most gigantic fart and that was the end of that,” she added.

Laughing, she continued: “And I got out of that very much needed hospital bed swiftly.”

More recently, Amanda needed medical attention after being left “swollen and infected” from a cat bite. Speaking on the show, she explained that she had been bitten while trying to break up a fight between her cat and their new rescue:

“I’ve been attacked by my own cat, not my rescue [cat], who is very sweet and is trying to be subservient with our Princess who is 15, [but] she is absolutely not having it.

“And yesterday they came across each other, we’ve been keeping them very separate. And I put my hand in, because they started fighting, and I had to try and separate them.

“I’ve never seen anything like it and my own cat got hold of my wrist with her teeth, and I literally lifted my arm in the air and she was still on it.”

As a result, Amanda said her wrist had “doubled in size” and was feeling “red hot.” She added that she was also experiencing a “massive headache” and struggling to “string a sentence together,” though she wasn’t sure if all the symptoms were connected to the bite.

“I can’t move it,” she continued. “I’ve got no eye makeup on, I normally turn up looking like Claudia Winkleman every morning, and I need a tetanus jab for sure. I can’t move my hand.”

Later in the show, Amanda provided an update after seeing a medical professional.

“I’ve seen a doctor and he’s prescribed two sets of antibiotics to cover the possible bacterial range, but apparently cats are full of horrible bacteria, because I can’t move my wrist,” she shared.

“He said in my life I’ve probably had five tetanus [jabs], he’s hoping, so therefore you’re covered for life.”
