In a post on social media, Takaichi said the government will suspend measures that restrict the operation of less efficient coal-fired power plants for fiscal 2026, allowing facilities to run at higher capacity.
Takaichi explained that the move is expected to save approximately 500,000 tons of LNG annually, as Japan seeks to secure stable energy supplies amid rising geopolitical tensions affecting key maritime routes.
