Szolnok is the winner of the weekend in the Hungarian Championships.
In the 17th round, Szolnok defeated OSC Budapest in an away match, 15:11, and climbed to 4th place ahead of Vasas.
OSC only led once against Szolnok (2:1). The visitors responded with a 3-goal run, taking a 4:2 lead. In the second period, Szolnok extended its advantage to three goals, 6:3 and 7:4. Although OSC made an effort to rally back and nearly succeeded, the hosts managed to cut the deficit to just one goal late in the third quarter (9:10) and again at the begining of the fourth (10:11). After the hosts scored their 10th goal, Szolnok responded with four consecutive goals, establishing a comfortable 15:10 lead with less than four minutes remaining in the match. Maxim Csech was instrumental in Szolnok’s offense, scoring five goals, while OSC’s David Gal was the match’s best scorer, netting six goals.
Ferencvaros, playing without injured Dusan Mandic, convincingly defeated Vasas 18:6. Vasas never led in this match, but the game was an even contest in the first quarter and a half. Vasas successfully chased Ferencvaros and equalized four times (1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4). From the 12th minute and until the end of the game, Ferencvaros scored 14 and conceded only two goals. Ten players of the European champion got on the scoreboard in an 18:6 win, and Stylianos Argyropoulos and Krisztian Manhercz scored three goals each.
Szeged beat Eger 12:7, and the derby Honved – BVSC has been rescheduled for late April, because of BVSC’s participation in the Euro Cup.
