Jake Paul says he will buy Ellie Scotney a car if she wins this weekend.
Scotney, who is signed to Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, will become the UK’s youngest undisputed champion in the four-belt era is she beats Mexican Mayelli Flores on Sunday.
The Lewisham fighter had left Paul shocked in the gym last week as she revealed the length of her journey to training each day, noting how she affords herself an Uber closer to fight week.
“I get two trains, a tube and a bus,” she laughed.
“Why?” replied Paul.
“Because I can’t drive!,” said Scotney. “I’m going to be the first person to be undisputed that’s not got a driving license or a stoppage at the minute. We’re doing some Guinness Book of Records here.
“I gets hard. I have this rule. The more fights I’m having I’m pushing the week back, so I allow myself to have an Uber from like five weeks out. You’ve gotta stay humble!
“I keep saying next camp, next camp, Shane (trainer Shane McGuigan) has teased about potentially moving, so I’m gonna have to get my driver’s license.”
In a reply to the video on Instagram, Paul said: “If she wins imma buy her a car.”
McGuigan meanwhile joked he has been trying to encourage Scotney to learn to drive for four years.
Scotney enters this weekend’s fight undefeated at 11-0 and holder of the IBF, WBC, and WBO female super bantamweight titles. WBA champion Flores is 13-1-1 and five years older than her opponent, her sole career defeat coming to fellow Mexican Yulihan Luna while challenging for the WBC bantamweight title in 2022.
Their fight takes place on the undercard of Carolina Dubois and Terri Harper’s lightweight unification clash.
Watch Dubois vs Harper live on Sky Sports on Sunday April 5.
