The BBC knew about the allegations against Scott Mills almost a year ago but didn’t investigate, according to reports. A former presenter contacted the network in May 2025 with information about alleged “inappropriate communications” involving the radio star but didn’t receive a response.
The BBC’s decision to sack Scott Mills relates to a 2016 police investigation into “serious sexual offences” against a teenage boy. Mills was questioned by police under caution but the case was dropped because of a lack of evidence. However the Mirror understands the sacking relates to this individual.

On Monday a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “In December 2016, the Met began an investigation following a referral from another police force. The investigation related to allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy. These were reported to taken place between 1997 and 2000. As part of these enquiries, a man who was in his 40s at the time of the interview, was questioned by police under caution in July 2018. A full file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, who determined the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges. Following this advice, the investigation was closed in May 2019.”
The network claimed it terminated Mills’s contract as soon as it became aware of the allegations, but according to The Telegraph, a former BBC presenter contacted the BBC in May 2025 with information about alleged “inappropriate communications” involving the radio star.
Anna Brees also quizzed the network if it had ever received any “formal or informal complaints” about Mills “relating to safeguarding, inappropriate conduct or harassment” and whether there had been an internal investigation – but she did not receive a response.
Anna said: “Someone who knew I used to work for the BBC volunteered some information about Scott Mills messaging someone inappropriately.
“It was a credible source and I was concerned so I decided to contact the BBC to make them aware of it and see if they came back with anything. I didn’t get a response.”
It is not suggested that the matters raised by Ms Brees concern the same alleged victim whose 2018 report resulted in Mills’ police interview.
In a statement to The Telegraph, the broadcaster apologised and admitted they should have followed up. It read: “We received a press query in 2025 which included limited information. This should have been followed up and we should have asked further questions. We apologise for this and will look into why this did not happen. More broadly, we would always urge anyone who has concerns or information to raise it with us.”
