Beauty influencer Zhu Mingyue, known as Mi Duo online, has died at the age of 41, two years after being diagnosed with a form of rare cancer
A huge beauty influencer has died. Zhu Mingyue, known as Mi Duo, was just 41 and had been battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
She had rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma. The Chinese influencer, who had 111,000 followers on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, said doctors gave her between one and two years to live.
Zhu, who ran a cosmetics brand and used to be a model, started making videos about her experiences fighting the rare cancer. In her final months, she suffered from severe complications, including losing her eyesight and the ability to speak clearly, although she remained optimistic to comfort her family.
Her death was announced by her eldest daughter on Monday (30 Mar). She described her mother as a “warrior” and a “hero” who worked tirelessly to provide a better life for her family and to build up her cosmetics brand. Following her mother’s wishes, she reiterated the message that people should “prioritise their health over work”.
She said her mother’s biggest regret was neglecting her body while chasing professional success, often working through exhaustion and skipping meals. In previous videos, Zhu had warned her followers about three bad habits that could trigger serious illness, as reported by NeedToKnow. She said greasy foods, particularly takeaways, are bad for our health, along with sleep deprivation and chronic anxiety.
Zhu believed that she weakened her immune system by staying up until 1am or 2am most nights. The influencer, who came from Harbin City, China, said she considered anxiety the most crucial contributing factor to her health breakdown.
She explained that her husband’s car dealership had run into financial trouble and he didn’t want to listen to her business advice, causing friction between them for over a year. Her daughter said she was also stressed by the extreme competitiveness in the digital entrepreneurship world. She leaves behind her husband and three children.
