With Wayne Rooney in charge of planning Coleen’s 40th birthday bash, the football legend has kicked off a big weekend for the family with a cute collection of memories
Wayne Rooney rolled back the years as he marked his wife Coleen’s 40th birthday.
He celebrated her special day with memories from over the past few decades, with their four sons of course taking centre stage. Kai, 16, Klay, 12, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass all appear in Wayne’s photo tribute, which started with mum and dad together in their early days as love-struck teenagers.
The collection included the couple on holiday together as teens, enjoying a music festival and soaking up the sun at the Wimbledon tennis championships before the boys arrive – and the football legend captioned the shots: “Happy 40th Birthday to the best wife and mum we could wish for. It’s sure to be a big weekend of celebration and they will toast the milestone with a huge party at her home in Cheshire as friends and family join them at their £20million mansion. With the marquee now up, a source close to the star has revealed all to The Mirror about the big birthday bash, including who’s on the guestlist, how footballer Wayne is taking charge, and what’s been banned at the glam event.
“It’s going to be a huge birthday bash over the Easter weekend. They were originally going to go to Barbados themselves but Coleen decided they’d do a big 40th for everyone at home,” a source told us.
“The guest list is obviously going to be A list and very football related. There’s going to be all of Wayne’s old teammates, the ex-Manchester United squad and everyone that’s played with Wayne, including David Beckham.”
The football pundit has taken charge of planning the event, with the footballer hoping he can repay Coleen for her unwavering support with the glitzy bash. “She’s very much into finer details and wants everything to be perfect,” the source tells us.
Not only will security be tight, but guests who do attend have been put on a strict phone ban. “She wants to have a good time without anyone filming anything like Wayne falling on the dance floor or being drunk,” the insider added.
“It’s going be very high protection when it comes to this. It’s a private party. There’s no one that can party like Coleen.”
Coleen and Wayne are childhood sweethearts after meeting as teenagers. They married in 2008 and although they have had their ups and downs, their relationship is still holding firm as they survived a number of the former Manchester United star’s high-profile mistakes.
They had known each other since they were 12 as they were from the same area of Liverpool. But they had only been dating for a few months when Wayne scored his first Premier League goal for Everton, days before his 17th birthday. It made him the competition’s youngest ever scorer at the time and catapulted both of them into the headlines.
But the path hasn’t been smooth. Alongside dealing with scandalous revelations about Wayne during their relationship’s early stages, Coleen endured the heartbreaking death of her sister Rosie, before facing the notorious “Wagatha Christie” controversy in 2019 and subsequent High Court battle in 2022.
Devastated Coleen was left ”humiliated and hurt” after husband Wayne was snapped partying alongside two mystery women in the bar of a Manchester hotel. The ex-England star, 40, was attending a pre-Brit Awards party, and according to onlookers, looked “worse for wear”.
It’s not the first time party-loving Wayne has been caught enjoying the company of other women. The BBC football pundit hit the headlines way back in 2004 after it was reported he’d cheated on Coleen with a 21-year-old prostitute.
It was also reported that he’d visited a £45-a-session brothel.
