Todd Meadows’ cause of death has been confirmed. The TV star was best known for appearing on Deadliest Catch and passed away in March during production of season 22 of the Discovery Channel hit, which also streams on Netflix, at the age of just 25.

He passed away after falling overboard as cameras rolled on the show and an attempt carried out by his crew mates on the Captain Rick Shelford’s Aleutian Lady to save himwas ultimately unsuccessful.

A copy of his death certificate has now listed the star’s official cause of death as “drowning with probable hypothermia” and “submersion of body in cold water,” TMZ reports.

The news comes just weeks after his mum Angela has urged the footage that was captured on that day to never be aired.

She said: “We don’t want to see any footage of the accident and do not want Discovery to air any of that footage or make money off of our son’s death.

Speaking to TMZ, she continued: “We hope they only air good things of Todd on that boat.” It was confirmed by Meadows’ bunkmate that cameras were rolling at the time of the incident. The family is currently waiting for definitive answers as to how their son died, as an investigation by the Coast Guard continues.

However, Angela says she has received assurances that her son did not suffer in his final moments. She added: “We don’t want to put the blame on anyone, but someone has to take responsibility. We will have justice for Todd.”

The boat he was on board, called the Aleutian Lady, was approximately 170 miles north of the coast when the tragedy happened. A statement from the Coast Guard read: “Coast Guard watchstanders at the Arctic District command center in Juneau received notification from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady, reporting that a crew member by the name of Todd Meadows fell overboard approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor.

“He was recovered unresponsive by the crew approximately ten minutes later. First aid and attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful, and the crew transported the deceased to Dutch Harbor.” Captain Rick Shelford, also on the programme, shared the sad news of Meadows’ death online. On Facebook, he said: “February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea.

“We lost our brother, Todd Meadows. Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away.

“His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.” The star is survived by his three sons. A GoFundMe page has been started for them and has already raised over $30k (£22.5k).
