The Testament’s Recurring Characters From The Handmaid’s Tale, Will ‘June’ Return In The Spinoff?

The latest show, The Testaments, is a sequel to Hulu’s television adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale. The Handmaid’s Tale ended in May 2025 after six seasons and an upcoming sequel series, The Testament, which is set 15 years later. The Testaments is narrated by Aunt Lydia, thrusting viewers back into the dystopian future.

What is The Testaments all about?

The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel of the same name. The novel is set 15 years after her 1985 original, The Handmaid’s Tale. While The Handmaid’s Tale focused on June Moss, The Testaments will focus on her daughter, Hannah (renamed as Agnes). The role of Hannah is played by actress, Chase Infiniti.

The Testaments will feature the story of Hannah and many new generations of young women growing up in Gilead. They face the prospect of marriage and living a life of servitude. Amid this, the show will feature their search for allies to help them fight for freedom. The Testaments is set in the same world as The Handmaid’s Tale, but it features younger voices.

Who all will reprise their role in The Testaments from The Handmaid’s Tale?

The Testament has some interesting faces, which include Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Eva Foote, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien. Apart from this, there are a few characters who will be reprising their role from The Handmaid’s Tale in the sequel.

Aunty Lydia will return in The Testaments

Aunt Lydia, played by Ann Dowd, is an important character in The Testaments. She played a pivotal role in The Handmaid’s Tale and was one of the show’s most hated villains. However, over the course of the seasons, Lydia changed and stood up to the unjust aspects of Gileadean society.

Aunt Lydia’s role in The Testaments is completely different from the novel, as it explains her backstory. Though her role in The Handmaid’s Tale showed her influence in Gilead and she was known for her cruel portrayal, The Testaments will see her in a different light.

Another character who is reported to be seen in The Testaments is baby Nichole Osborne. Baby Nichole from The Handmaid’s Tale also returns to The Testaments, although at times she is also called Daisy and Jade. Nichole fights for social justice in Gilead but doesn’t know her true origins. Nichole is the daughter of the Handmaid, June Osborne and the sister of Agnes. In The Handmaid’s Tale, Nichole was just a baby, but in The Testaments, she is a 16-year-old girl.

Will June Osborne return in The Testaments?

The Handmaid’s Tale featured the story of June Osborne, played by Elisabeth Moss. In The Testaments, Moss serves as an executive producer, and since the show was announced, there has been a lot of chatter about whether she would reprise her role. In the novel, June’s character makes an appearance, so speaking to TVInsider, she shared:

“I mean, ‘No,’ I would totally lie to you if I was! I would totally lie to you if I was! It’s been really, really cool, and it meant I didn’t have to say goodbye to the world, which I was very happy about. And obviously, getting to be a part of anything that Chase is a part of is so exciting. It’s such an honor, and it’s cool.”
