Chennai: DMK President and Chief Minister M K Stalin launched a scathing attack on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami for alleging that Stalin was too scared to come out during the Covid pandemic and said that he never feared for his life and even when he had to face worse adversities in his young age like is incarceration during the Emergency.
Addressing a campaign meeting at Tiruvannamalai on Wednesday, when he introduced the candidate of the Progressive Democratic Alliance from Tiruvannammalai and Kallakurichi districts to the voters, he referred to Palaniswami’s statement that Stalin did not come out during the pandemic because he was afraid.
Responding to that, Stalin said that he had bravely faced worse situations and that he did not fear losing his life even when he was arrested under MISA during Emergency at a young age. He asserted that he was no coward and said that he regretted having to do politics with politicians like Palaniswami after personally interacting with erudite leaders like Periyar E V Ramasamy, C N Annadurai, K Kamaraj and M G Ramachandran.
Stalin who also addressed a meeting at Villupuram received a rousing welcome from his party workers and members of the public, who had gathered in large numbers, accused Palaniwami of giving an opportunity to the BJP to gain popularity in Tamil Nadu. Many projects of the BJP had failed, he said and wondered how that party’s leaders came to Tamil Nadu with a straight face to canvass votes for their candidates.
Listing the various welfare schemes launched by his government in the last five years, Stalin said Palaniswami was a ‘ten-time loser’ and was attacking the DMK as he was unable to respond to the political criticism against him.
