West Ham v Wolves preview

Rob Edwards accepts every team in the Premier League will view a game against Wolves as must-win but he is demanding a strong end to the season from his improving side.

Wolves have had a miserable campaign, winning just three league games, and they will almost certainly be playing Championship football in August.

That’s not to say Edwards will allow them to go quietly and they have the opportunity to put a major dent in West Ham’s survival bid tomorrow night when they visit the London Stadium.

He said: ”They’re all big games. This first one is really big for both teams. We want to keep improving, keep the momentum going. We feel we can win, we’ve shown that recently. That’s our mindset. West Ham will be feeling the same. Every team will look at Wolves and think ‘that’s a game we have to win’. That’s the situation we’re in, the next three games will be the same.

“Our fate’s not sealed at the moment, we want to take things as far as possible, we want to take as much positive momentum as possible into next season, to finish as high as possible, but to do that we have to get points. We haven’t thought ahead about what it might do to the table, we just have to try and find a way to win the game.”

Wolves boss Rob Edwards

Wolves will be without goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and defender Matt Doherty but, otherwise, Edwards has a full-strength squad to choose from as they return to action after 25 days due to the international break and the FA Cup quarter-finals.

“Some of the boys got away and got some sunshine or went to Iceland,” said Edwards. “It was nice, it was the right thing to do for that stage, we had so much time to prepare for this game. It was good for them, I think, they came back really refreshed.”

West Ham have an incredible chance to put pressure on their relegation rivals who play later across the weekend.

The Hammers are 18th, a point adrift of Tottenham and three behind Nottingham Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo faces his former club tomorrow but denied suggestions the pressure on him and his players was too much to bear.

He said: ”We’ve been under pressure since the beginning. In the Premier League you can ask anyone, we are [under] constant scrutiny. We are being evaluated in every action we make. The players are used to that and they are ready. What is important is that we are, as a team, together with the fans. It’s going to be tough but it’ll be much easier if we can count on all the support we are going to have.

“As a club we are in a position that we don’t want to be and it’s up to us, the players and us coaches to take care of the mission that we have in hand. We know, we are aware but we are confident and we believe in each other.”
