Hi John! What made you want to take part in Celebrity Ex On Beach?
Every now and again there are some pre-judged opinions about me out there, but I think going on this show marks a new chapter because I did it on my own, away from Edward. It’s a different situation.
What does Edward make of you being on the show?
I was just talking to him there on the phone. He was a huge supporter of me doing the show, as was Gemma [Collins]. She was very excited. At first, I was a bit kind of touch-and-go. I thought, “Oh, will I do this?” But obviously, I always confide in Edward and he was like, “Oh yeah, you should do it,” because you always end things on a neutral note with your exes. If they wash up on the beach, you possibly rekindle something, maybe start cleaning slates. I think it’s like, obviously, you take that risk going on the show. You don’t know who’s going to pull up, but the one that does pull up may say, “You know what, maybe I’ll give them another chance.”
Your ex, Sarah Carragher, washed up – so, did you two rekindle?
I can say, because the pictures have come out, I got a few smooches in there. But it’s crazy because last summer I was dating somebody who obviously didn’t wash up on the shore this time. But obviously, the ex Sarah that washes up, we got a great kiss, we got a good touch, and that’s important. And we’re still continuing now.
You and Edward have a lovely friendship with Gemma Collins. Is it true that you’re giving her away at her wedding?
Yes, we’re going to be a big part of Gemma’s wedding. I feel like we’ve been there through it all, through the tribulations, the highs and lows of everything. I feel like I’m a good listener when I’m not talking, and we’ll see what happens. You know, obviously, life is a journey – things get in the way. Rami had lost his dad, and different things happen in life that obviously aren’t public sometimes, and we’ve been there for them both. And I feel, when it comes to that big day, I’ll be there, singing and listening as well.
Are you and Edward performing?
Yes, 100%. I’ll be there. I’ll be doing whatever I need to do. Maybe I could officiate the wedding, but I think I have to be a priest to do that.
Can we be your plus one?
[Laughs] Helen Flanagan already wants to be the plus one.
What’s Gemma like, behind the GC persona?
Oh, Gemma’s very cool. She’s very easy-going, and I think it’ll be a lovely day. We’ll see what happens. I’m like a mediator sometimes with her and Rami. Sometimes they have a little discussion, and things aren’t going the right way, and I say, “You know what, guys? Let’s take a breath, here.” I’m a good mediator, and I feel like I bring out the best in both Gemma and Rami.
Are you helping to organise the hen or the sten do?
Not yet, no. I don’t think I’d be the one to shout on that, but there are people. I’m going to leave it to whoever else is more appropriate. I’m just going to attend those things. I’ll go to the hen and stag do, why not? Or Sten do!
We’re sure Gemma will be cheering you on while you’re doing Ex On The Beach and you’ll be supporting her on I’m A Celebrity?
I was there when she left. I went to the airport with her. I was there at the very last moment, sending her off in her Gucci sparkly top. I just got her into a good headspace for that experience, I hope.
Are Gemma and Rami tying the knot in Essex?
I don’t think so. I don’t have all this information. We don’t know. I think she’ll go all over the place. She might have a tour wedding like Spice World with the Spice Girls, going from city to city.
