As a dad of five, Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre will be all too familiar with the struggles that can come with parenthood, but it seems he’s softened his approach over the years

Peter Andre has admitted that the thought of his daughter hitting a certain milestone once made him “feel terrible”. As a busy father of five, it stands to reason that the Mysterious Girl singer knows a thing or two about the ups and downs of parenthood.

Peter shares his two eldest children, Junior and Princess, with his ex, Katie Price, and Theo, Amelia and Arabella with doctor Emily MacDonagh, with whom he tied the knot in 2015. He also has a bond with Katie’s eldest son, Harvey, to whom he was previously stepdad.

It seems that with this experience comes wisdom, as the singer-songwriter has revealed that he has adopted different tactics when it comes to being a father to his young kids, noting that you “soften as you get older”.

He said he initially “repeated” his parents’ approach, describing them as “religious and very strict”. He admitted his “views changed” over time, though; which was particularly the case with Princess and her dating life.

When asked if his style had changed, Peter told Woman magazine: “Yeah, definitely. My parents were religious and very strict, so when Junior and Princess were born, I kind of repeated how they were. But time and my views changed – especially on things like Princess having a boyfriend.

“The thought of it made me feel terrible at first. You soften as you get older and you have more children. Who knows what I’ll be like by the time Belle is a teenager!”

Earlier this year, Peter revealed that he was close to tears at the sight of his eldest children on an “emotional” day. In remarks referring to his July 2015 wedding to Emily, he described his feelings when he watched Princess and Junior walking down the aisle.

Both played a part in the ceremony: Princess was a flower girl, while Junior was a pageboy.

Peter wrote: “When the day came, and people started arriving at the beautiful Orangery where the ceremony was to take place, we had a wonderful classical quartet playing while people found their seats.”

He said proceedings kicked off with Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’. Joining Junior as pageboys were Emily’s ten-year-old brother, Joe, and Peter’s nephew, Savandy, who entered first, followed by the flower girls, Princess and Amelia.

Peter continued: “I was pretty emotional seeing my kids walking down that aisle, but George was there with a reassuring squeeze of my shoulder as I tried to hold back the tears.”

In further touching remarks, Peter described his “gorgeous” wife, whose eyes were “shimmering”, as the “most beautiful” bride he’d “ever seen”, adding that he “couldn’t help welling up.”

He also shared insights into his time as a single dad in the book, saying: “As a single dad, it was crucial to me that, when they were with me, as they are half the time, they didn’t see me coming home with a string of different girlfriends.
